Yeah I was thinking the same thing, I love the series, but would prefer if they were a bit more honest on the prices for an average rider, $1000 downhill bike vs $1000 trail bike is still a reasonable “cheap bike” comparison!

Built my daughter (13 yo) a Giant Anthem full sus - 26" with 1x9 for under £300 and it is PLENTY bike for her - just added a dropper for £50 in the recent sales too. Out of the two in this video definitely the bossnut, as I was looking at the Calibre range and had nearly convinced myself to buy a Triple B (Bossnut big brother) when they stopped being able to source them. I now have an old busted calibre guantlet hardtail to do up for eldest daughter to compliment her school commuter bike.

The Calibre Bossnut was a great bike trail bike at a very affordable price as an introduction to Full Suspension Mountain Biking. Unfortunately after two years of fun I demo'd an e-MTB and sold the Bossnut to fund the ebike, and I haven't looked back, but still have fond memoires of my first FS MTB.
@MrReivn Жыл бұрын
Trail bike all the way. As you said, if you don't live near a downhill center with lifts to the top. you either push it up, or you're screwed. Trail bike goes everywhere, a bit like an xc, but better downhill performance...
@gmbn Жыл бұрын
Yeah, great point! Trail bikes are way more versatile! 👍
@ekims_echoes Жыл бұрын
The cheap downhill bike seems like a great choice for a second or third bike, especially if one lives near, and frequently goes to, a downhill park. However, versatility is king in my book and I'd choose a trail bike that I can take on a long ride, pedaling up and down over a single speed downhill machine. I think there should have been multiple points awarded to being able to ride uphill and general versatility.
@FatalCrest6 Жыл бұрын

Just built up a Ragley Mmmbop, being savvy and buying up all the parts in the sales. 2022 Ragley Mmmmbop frame, Pike RCT3, Dt Swiss m1900 wheelset, Deore group set, SLX brakes, Nukeproof pedals, bars and stem, Brand X dropper and headset, and Ergon grips. All for the total price of £790, only the forks were second-hand. A truly capable bike for the money. If you know what you're looking for and what represents good value, you can build a bike that's worth more than the sum of its parts!

The more I compare my 27.5 enduro bike to my 26 full sus park bike.. the more I realize the 26er makes me feel more nimble and in tune with the trail. Whereas the 27.5 feels more stable/confident but more dulled out. Bit of a sad realization as I think we'd all love to have the best of both worlds.

(Obviously choose bikes with mediocre maintenance or bad tunes...) Bonus... The viewers get their bike back with a free repair/tune. Rules of engagement... No upgrades(Other than tyres), new oil/chain/cables/tyres/pads/bearings/grips allowed (and possibly replacement like for like of anything beyond repair (derailleur, sprockets, etc.)). Shame I can't b there with my never tuned, barely maintained 2010 Giant Faith but NZ's a bit far to travel from.
