Oh yeah great idea! A proper budget build would be good to see but not too many sponored parts , too many YTers doing $5k builds and loading it with $50K of sponsored goods......I can think of one channel that does that all too often in Australia.....😏

Two things to add to your list - Costeffective CEM engine flush to get rid of all the internal sludge. Second is the plate the water pump mounts to is corrosion damaged inside, you can see it clearly at 14:05 This damage will cause poor water circulation, and when you turbo it your overheating problem will return.

They wear the pads on the rockers where they push on the top of the valve,and you can't get a correct measurement with the feelers. if they are still noisy, you can adjust them with the engine running and slowly tighten till the noise stops. Works super well

definately keen for a budget build series! i also have a cheap td42, got it for $2900 with 378k on the clock, now it has 396k. thinking about adding a turbo but not sold on it just yet. originally bought it as a weekend warrior, but somehow it turned in the daily while ive been working on the old daily and turning it into a garage queen lol

Never paint threads mate, I guarantee that red rocker cover paint will be removed by your oil cap and end up in the oil filter. But any thread should be left unpainted as it interferes with how it works (binding/stretch) I was an engine builder for 10 years I've seen the effects. Keep up the good work 👍👍

Clack, clack, clack...typical TD42, most likely the pump. Even with a new pump, new rocker shaft, new injectors etc, the clacking is still there in our TD42s, plus many other GQ - TD42 noises. Ah, old engine and old truck racket!

I just want to start by saying thank you, I live in Japan and they're pushing these old cars away, these TD42 can't even be registered in the Tokyo area prefecture. I just ordered my GQ TD42 and expect it in the next couple weeks, I plan to do these exact things you're doing and getting her right, please keep these videos coming because they will help me immensely.

Keen to see how you go about fixing the paint. I pressure washed my gu and was probably a good metre or more away and the paint literally flaked away. I got quoted close to $8k for a respray.

Hi mate! I had to base coat with high temp alluminium colour paint, and the top coat of red was a anodised red!

Hey mate, don’t have any personal experience but nulon is a great company! I do know the downsides of doing an engine flush is that you potentially can block oil gallery’s as well as the oil pickup because it releases all the sludge from the motor!
