For the record: While you can use TP when you run out of sculptamold, as this video brilliantly shows. It doesn’t work both ways, you CANNOT use scultamold when you run out of TP.

I love watching your videos. Its amazing how small of a community the minatures, and minature terrian world is. When i was researching on the subject about a year ago, i was initially investigating 3d printers. It became obvious early on that tabletop minatures played a huge part in reviews for 3d printer capabilities because of the detail involved. That in turn opened me up to other people printing minis, and i noticed that too was a small core group of people as well. Well, when you watch enough of those videos, painting those minis comes up and not long after that i discovered, yourself, goobertown, and black magic. Im subbed to all 3 of you guys now because of the great content you all put forth. Thank you for documenting your passion for us to see and learn from. I'd LOVE to see a video on making your own molds like the ones you use for scatter terrian. (I know those ones were purchasable, but im referring to your comment on possibly a future video) My 12 year old daughter is really crafty and id love to be able to make stuff with her from start to finish. Especially if we'll be stuck in quarantine in the near future. 😧 From one Canadian to another, Fantasitic Channel! Not using TP for this, while TP is easy to use, i find soaking some regular newspaper and those newspaper advertisment inserts (the non glossy stuff) to be basically free. Just raid your local paper trash can and fish out days old newspaper. Soak it in water over night and put it into a cheap blender (or use your home blender while the wife's not looking). Then mix it with plaster and PVA glue*. I find it to be much more durable than the TP stuff. Edit: *PVA glue is optional, but if you throw in some starch as well, you get a super smooth paste, which you can sand, if needed, but will hold fine details. I got that idea from one of the papermache channels that do the big papermache sculpts and such.

Except for one issue with that... bidets require water... and the utility prices for water (and electricity) have been escalating for years now... it's as expensive to drink water at our house as it is to buy the most affordable bottled drinking water. If you're in Australia you can get a Sculptamold alternative called Sculpt-It Modelling Mix from Officeworks, it only comes in 10kg for $69 but it works out to be about half the price of 10kg of Sculptamold which is roughly $140 - $150. I imagine other countries must have alternatives like that as well.

Newspaper paper gone through a paper-shredder works as well, maybe better since you can get long strands of paper. And it's free. Some even use this to create a papercrete shell as a roof on earthbag domes/housing, so it has great potential in wargaming where we need to make shatterproof terrain.

I mix my TP with the water then run it through an old big kitchen blender before adding the plaster. It makes a smoother mix and mixes with the plaster better. It's also easier to judge the amount of water you need so as to mix the right amounts, not too much or too little.

A couple of cheap and easy ways to get your watered down tp to be fluffy is 1: if you have a multi speed drill, use a spare mixer blade. Or 2: go to one of the big box stores and get a cheap food mixer. Or three go to a thrift store and get a used food mixer. Get a large mesh strainer while you're at it. Put your TP in a mixing bowl add water till it's about halfway up the TP. Press the TP into the water till all the TP is wet. Use the mixer on low and mix the TP and water till it's completely mixed. Now pore the TP into the mesh strainer and let it drain till there's almost no water dripping from it. Dump/scoop the TP back into the mixing bowl and use the mixer again to fluff it up. Now add about 1/4 the volume of plaster into the bowl. Mix on the lowest setting of your mixer and slowly add a little by little bit of water into the bowl till you have a cottage cheese look to it. Though if you want it to work best you will have to completely dry the broken down TP and refluff it before mixing the plaster to it. You can also make large batches this way and store it for later use, but only if the TP is completely dry. They you just use what you need at the time by adding water bit by bit and mix to a cottage cheese consistency.

If you do not have access to plaster, flour works as well, just prime it with a primer after it dries to stop it from falling off and it helps preserve the flour. You can layer the paper and flour and then add a flour mix over the top. Use wood glue for the top layer once you form your shape and then prime everything... You can use the same methods to make masks but fair warning, it can stink if not primed totally, that is why you top it off with a wood glue before priming it with a primer...

I have found an awesome alternative to Sculptamold. Use your basic Plaster Paris with GreenFiber R13-R60 Blow in insulation its non itching and it only cost 6 bucks for a huge bag of it . You mix 1 part Plaster to 2 Parts Fiber then pore in your water. About 1 part water for me I'm pretty quick with it. More plaster makes it set faster more water makes it set slower. It can be smoothed and teased to any shape. It drys a off white even though insulation is dark grey. ALSO PICK OUT LARGE PLASTIC STRIPS it can contain large recycled plastic bag strips they vary in colors.

I think if customs destroys something like that they should HAVE to replace it free of charge! 😡 What blows my mind is the fact that I hear of SO MANY people having even their clearly labeled item destroyed YET you RARELY hear of them ACTUALLY FINDING any drugs!🤨🤨😒 Obviously they aren’t finding that much since the drug supply on the streets doesn’t seem to be decreasing at all. At least not here in the US. Hope it’s different in Canada! I do really appreciate these tips! As someone who doesn’t have a lot of money to purchase art supplies. Especially since COVID19 has hit. 😕😞 Thats the irony...COVID has caused us to have tons of free time while being stuck at home...which should mean loads more time to work on art projects..but it’s also caused us to lose work. Thus leaving little to no money for art supplies as we are struggling to even pay bills & buy food.

Those regulations have nothing to do with narcotics, they're to do with toxic, poisonous, acidic, vaporous, carcinogenic, or other hazardous materials. Invasive insects, diseases, microbes, etc. Organic compounds, such as paper material, anything fibrous, or other organic materials (yes, dirt, substrate, media, etc are all organic materials), and anything containing those compounds, need to be properly treated and stored. Frankly, the import and export regulations are *far more permissive than they should be* considering the quantity of material that gets through customs (both ways) that is *definitely* not being properly treated, but the CFIA (and US and EU and etc equivalents) and everybody else are very permissive whenever they can justify erring on the side of giving the benefit of the doubt to the public, for the sake of ensuring minimum proturbence to international trade and economic productivity. They only step in and destroy material when the obvious, preexisting, and universally applicable laws and regulations in question have been entirely ignored (such as when somebody thinks "I slapped a piece of paper on that says what this is" qualifies as certification). They will only destroy properly labelled, certified, and checked materials if they have reason to suspect contamination (or whatever). Narcotics aren't particularly relevant, in comparison.

If I find somewhere toilet paper, I'll give it a try but if I go to my local stores I didn't find cheap toilet paper because the people are crazy. Is it helpful to put these tp in a mixer before watering?
@RealTerrainHobbies
@RealTerrainHobbies 4 жыл бұрын
I found it better to wet it first, rather than trying to pre mix it dry. Although good luck finding toilet paper now!😬

This is really cool, but DUDE! That paper mâché stuff? Don’t throw that out, never waste materials if you can help it. It may take forever to dry, but the fact that it shrinks when it dries could come in handy for something some day.

Yeah you're definitely right. I shouldn't have said that. I was planning on keeping it around. Several here have suggested mixing in the plaster and using the Culluclay as the lightweight filler.

So I know the thumbnail was a joke but that being said I work at Target I'm the dude that restocks the tp and paper towels and we are actually having some sort of shortage. half the isle for charmin is empty and as soon as we get Scott 1000 sheets pack we sell out got 4 pallets come in Friday and they didn't make it thru Sunday morning. I guess what I'm asking is please stop buying all the tp for terrain try and limit yourself to 1 pack :(
@RealTerrainHobbies
@RealTerrainHobbies 4 жыл бұрын
I hear ya man. It was a joke because it was a massive fluke that I started this vid just before the shortage, then figured I had to joke around a bit because it was such a wild coincidence. But yeah, no one is going to be stocking up for their hobby. It's rediculous which adds to the joke. Your're much better off getting Sculptamold or Luke's/Geek Gaming Modelling Compound for sure at this point. This is still good for future reference when tp is in abundance.

Why did you use "sculptamold" in your rock molds? Never saw anyone do that, just straight plaster.

Could you put your toilet paper and water in a blender before adding plaster? Could it make it more smooth?

i don't know if you have this in Canada but check your local lumber company and check for the blown insulation made from newspaper works great and cheaper than toilet paper i use it all the time. "in place of toilet paper."

@@RealTerrainHobbies Luke did do a video where he said he started using blown cellulose insulation instead of toilet paper and discusses the ratios here (kzbin.info/www/bejne/bqGXgICKfbZqe9E). There is another video where he discusses buying large bags of the stuff and he's his usual entertaining self but I can't find that one. I've seen the blown cellulose insulation at Lowe's here in Canada for something like $10 for 10kg. Fair warning, it's well packed in a bag and when you don't open it carefully you'll have that stuff EVERYWHERE.

Karolina Zebrowska (I love her, but-..) made a 18th century dress out of toilet paper. At least you have an excuse & *you didn't stockpile* 😊💕 but *for anyone reading this:* please don't buy what you really don't need. What you don't buy can actually go to someone else who desperately needs it. For clout or attention, many KZbinrs are buying ridiculous amounts of toilet paper to send out as free giveaways, paid giveaways, or ridiculously stupid projects. I know we all need a laugh because of the pandemic and death that's happening all over the world. But *hurting people for laughs isn't the way to do it.* Thanks and I hope you all have a nice day. 💖

She didn’t make a dress though? That was a clickbait title? She used one roll, much like he did, and made accessories in a detachable way so that she may use it if necessary. I get it if you didn’t bother watching the video because of the title but it seems a bit unfair to complain about her doing that she straight up did not do. Bernadette Banner did make a full gown using toilet paper, but once again in a completely detachable way in order to use the material after the video.

www.lowes.com/pd/TEC-TEC-Sheet-Vinyl-and-Carpet-Tile-Flooring-Adhesive-Pack-Carpet-Flooring-Adhesive-1-Gallon/4764741 This is the reposition-able flooring adhesive I use. If you use it to build miniatures, it’s possibly a lifetime supply for around $30. It is very thick and can be thinned with a little water.
