Interesting build, but I suggest strengthening where you attach the angled 2x4 to the garage wall. You have only one bolt going into the stud wall but it is very close to the top edge of the 2x4. Any heavy weight and the 2x4 could split and the shelf will come down.
@BrosFOURRSpeed Жыл бұрын
Yeah I've kept an eye on it. So far I have less then 100 pounds on each shelf. It can hold my body weight fine. But if it start to sag at all I'll had something
@philipthrasher2 ай бұрын
To add more advice... This is a tension vs compression problem. Using a tiny steel cable with I-Bolts on each end would have been far more secure. Alternatively, using 2x4 as a knee (compression) instead of putting it in tension would have been much better too. In the future... just use steel cable instead of 2x4. It's going to be a lot stronger and impressively thin.

Hi, Thanks for sharing this useful storage on hidden location at garage Lintel beam .. 1) why don’t you screw the support pieces(4 of them? From backside of the stud before put the main 2 by 4 on the wall ? 2) Can we use side pocket jig using Kreg jig to make side holes than directly drill as cross hole?

I built it the way I did because I built the first one by myself. Easiest way without a second set of hand. Just built it to best film the process. You can certainly modify the design to best fit how you'd like to make it

If you want to, but that isn’t needed since it’s not in the elements. It’s either hot or cold, untreated wood is cheaper and perfectly fine to use.
