Thanks for the comparison. I have these Promax brakes on my bike now, but Im thinking of upgrading to the Deore. The Deore does look better quality, and I didnt know about the difference in replacement pads. Thanks!

thank you! I was considering the cheapie Promax set, but decided I better go with the Deore's for reliability. now which model to choose from? haha

I usually don't cheap out on brakes because I think it's one of the most important safety measure on the bike.

You should see the really cheap ones. They are hollow in the back, less metal. They dont like to show pictures of how they are hollow. There is also different lengths of brake arms, so be careful i have ordered the wrong length.

I dont get the pads part. You can buy replacable one for promax once and from now one replace them like in deore.

Some cheaper pads needs to be replaced with the rod, fancier pads only the rubber part needs to be replaced.

Couple of questions for you: 1) I noticed these come in two arm lengths. One 85mm and the other 108mm. I'm not sure which one to order. I'm upgrading to the Promax from Cantilever center pull brakes. Any suggestions? 2) Where can one buy the rubber boot seals at? Great video! I appreciate any insight and help you can provide! Best regards!

85mm is for smaller folding bikes, should get the longer one, as it will fit most bikes. The boots usually come with the brake you purchase.

@@SolarReturn1966 for anyone else wondering, the short ones work with cantilever levers and road bike levers! Ideal when converting an old MTB to drop bars but sticking to rim brakes.

In that it works in a pinch to replace a totally broken/hardened/worn v-brake

In reality there is little to no difference between the ProMax and Shimano brakes. Both will do exceptional braking with respect to V-brakes. All it really comes down to is a matter of looks and brand name.

I've used and compared both... Shimano breaks does perform better in terms of modulation and quality of break pads provided.

Promax is garbage.. they came with mine e-bike.. hard to balance, squiking all the time brakes are awful.. on rainy day they break like sponge.. Bought myself Shimano Deore for rear and Alivio for front... i am in seventh heaven now... Shimano are so much better..

More pivot engagement more stable more better. Promax is kind of wobbly even by cheap brake standards. I mean modern ProMax wobbly. ProMax from 20 years ago is pretty good, full engagement!
