I like the idea that the living space is upstairs because you would have more privacy in the day time, like neighbors or strangers wouldn't be able to easily bother you and I love that it feels like a flat/condo up there with the bright atmosphere and pretty tree tops and pool view. It's definitely nice to have a good window view, having a great view livens up the room.

We found a beautiful 4 bedroom house, fully furnished with split aircon on Samal island for 20k. Only2 years old , bungalow with fully gated.. Not many foreigners driving the prices up

wow, that is a nice apartment. I can see myself living there. $500 is a steal compared to SoCal. It's quiet and clean. I hope I can find a place like that when I retire in a few years. Los Angeles would still be my home base but would be spending more time in Valencia or Bacong. I can speak fluent Tagalog and hopefully learn Visaya down the road. Everywhere along the road are lying water hoses that are probably connected through some kind of pump with a water intake in the river or a deep well. The problem in some places is with the diameter of the hoses and during the day there are problems with water pressure. In Gil's place there is no such problem at our place is in the evening we have very good water pressure and in the morning poor.

As someone from the UK, I don't think $450 per month is cheap at all, that is the standard 2 bedroom house rent in the UK so that's rather expensive if you ask me

Hahaha "heat blisters". Self-diagnosing, oh dear. Could be miliaria (prickly heat rash) but rarely on hands. Normally in places where heat and dampness can build up like under clothes and skin folds. An eczema or allergic contact dermatitis might be more likely because it can happen on hands and for a person in a new country so many things are completely new to them like soaps that can irritate the skin. In developing countries a lot of perfumes can be added to soap because many locals think perfume smells like "clean". And of course the cheapest materials are always used without regard for safety. Decades ago when I was young Americans were pretty aware of the tropics having many health issues. But recently, I guess as the world has gotten smaller and countries in the tropics have built up to appear to look like the West, Americans are now not realizing places like PH are actually very different, with a whole new batch of virus, bacteria, fungus, insects, products and foods. Other countries manufacture product to look like Western products but the ingredients can be very different. Not in Kansas anymore. Whenever I travel I experience all kinds of minor sickness and health issues.
