To be fair the whole clone/pricing debate also changes when you go outside of the US. In Europe a Kraken is like 425$ new on Lamnia (the only place to get them new), or if I order a trainer directly from Squid, let's say a Mako, that'll run you around 180-190$ after shipping, taxes and fees are paid. At that point a sorta less great kinda copy thing from a chinese brand for 60$ that offers a comparable experience is a no brainer for most people, that's also one of the reasons why clones are still so popular. Chinese manufacturing is legitimately the only way for most EU flippers, at least until they get proxies and more cash into the hobby, but not everyone wants to or can do that. I own some expensive ass knives, but I still think the comet is one of the best trainers you can get for the money, sure I'd also feel mad if I found out that I essentially bought a copy of the same thing if I got another Marcolo, but why would I do that in the first place, it's not like anyone's aching to buy as many cheapish knives as possible. I think it's good to educate people on the copy paste nature of these things and hopefully that'll push the manufacturers to be even better, but at the end of the day I'm glad for everyone that can get into this hobby, because we need more reach and more people so it can grow beyond a mostly US based niche hobby.

As long as you're cool with supporting a company that thrives off of stealing designs from very small balisong makers, in some cases stealing designs from makers that are just a single person doing every step of the process, and makes huge efforts to pass off the clones as real to trick customers, then feel free to buy a clone! I have a Marcolo C116 V1 and it's honestly not that bad. Makes me really want to try the V2 with all of the texture on the faces of the handles. I mean, it's not a great balisong but, it's definitely not terrible. If that was all that you owned to learn with, you wouldn't be that bad off, honestly. You could do better but, you could definitely do way worse for the price. Btw, I also own the black one with the flame looking blade. Yeah, amongst my largish collection, I do have some cheap Amazon crap that I got just to try it out.

Yes, this is the only third party supplier, we initially needed small threadlocker for butterfly knives, so we contacted many supplier, but only one could provide it as per our requirements. We set the standard and let them provide us with threadlocker. After a year, when this was received well by everyone, more and more balisong added the same stuff from the same factory (since this is the only one and they have been serving us for a year, they have ready-made stuff) I don’t want to complain, I think this is a good thing, it allows consumers to get more! Let balisong's standardized services be better. Let’s continue to lead!

Great vid, but aluminum handles with jumping isn’t kraken adjacent 8:35. 12:37 Squid uses the same handle dimensions for the triton, squid trainer, mako and the squiddys and not many people seem to have problems with that. Cloning is never the best way to design balisongs, but imo it doesn’t mean that we have to pick on everything clone company’s do because even big makers do the same things we accuse them to be doing.

The triton and mako use similar handle dimensions but the Squid Trainer is different handle dimensions, and this doesn't address at all my whole point about how thoughtless these clone companies designs are. Each of those Squid products was developed with thought over a period of time to fit a specific role. None of the Marcolo products were.

The marcolo c116 v2 is really good ive and my box had marcolo written on it and ive had it for a long time and then i bought the vulp but the threadlocker had leaked in the balisong while shipping so it didnt work but i just bought a new one and it comes in 5 days and im finally gonna give it a try and im super exicted😊
