I have been looking everywhere for fixes for these lights. Even videos of people taking them apart....nothing for multiple times of searching daily until I find this. You allowed me to fully dissect the broken ones we had. All it required was tightening of the screws the gobo wheel/color wheel are attached to.

Nice work! Just wanted to mention an easier way to recalibrate these Chinese mini-spots after mods/cleaning: If you hold down the Enter button for a few seconds, you'll reach a hidden factory menu where you can tweak the home offset for each motor (pan/tilt/color/gobo).

@frankorandle2 жыл бұрын
People have been able to special order custom gobo wheels for about 30 years now. The easiest way would be using fixtures large enough that use standard sized replaceable and/or rotatable gobos. If you want to look into how the oldest color mixing light fixture did it look up High End Systems Color Pro. Three lamps, three pieces of dichroic glass.

What a coincidence that KZbin recommended me this video. I've just torn apart my Moving Head, it's pretty similar, same board, same gobos, same base, only the head looks slightly different. Mine is probably an older version but the same model. Somehow the UI on the seven segment display never made sense, the light source on mine was pretty dim and I didn't like the color filters and gobos. So I removed everything now except for the stepper motors and power supply. I will use this as an experiment so my decision might not make sense to everyone. For the light source I will be using a massive 82mm COB Led, probably without lenses and I won't use the gobos and color filters anymore, so I will have to 3D print my own shell. For the stepper drivers, I'm trying how tmc2209s perform on a moving head. Depending on which Microcontroller I will be using, I might also include RDM or Artnet over WiFi, because why not use it if the microcontroller can do it. I'm pretty sure one of those two things will be useful sooner or later.

@@ConnorEhrgood and to be clear, I would never have thought about it if you wouldn’t have made this video. I don’t have a 3D printer (yet!), so as I’m watching your video I’m thinking about how I can do this myself. Metal disks with simple hole patterns or using my little CNC machine are bouncing around in my head as I’m watching. Then you put the aluminum tape on your wheel and a light clicked on for me. :) thank you for the inspiration. If the vinyl works, that opens up much more complex designs. Maybe my band’s logo? I made it (had to modify for my moving head) and even with the tape it softened a ton. What material did you use?
@ConnorEhrgood3 жыл бұрын
Hey there! I used some generic white ABS. I suspect PC would be an even better option if you have a machine that can handle it. I would imagine that PLA will not work. It's likely that the ambient temperature in the fixture while operating for an extended period of time alone would be too much for PLA to handle even without the extra head from light absorption Good luck! I hope you find a material that works. Thanks for watching!
@hacksolot23 жыл бұрын
@@ConnorEhrgood I think I may have a solution, I am going to try to anneal PLA by boiling it in water, which raises the softening point much higher. I'll update whenever I can get around to it.

Very cool video! I have a few of these lights and never even thought about the upgrade potentials. I like the CMY colour mixing idea as well, it sounds very difficult to accomplish though. Have you considered whether adding RGB led modules along with the built in white one to get RGB colour mixing is feasible? I have no experience in this type of modding so perhaps you've ruled it out for an obvious reason, sounds more doable to me off the top of my head though
@ConnorEhrgood11 ай бұрын
Hey, thanks for watching! I've considered using an RGB LED, but I suspect I would struggle to source a sufficiently bright LED and know that my limited optical knowledge would likely not yield the nice even mix I'd be after, although maybe it's simpler than I'm thinking. Hi there! Seems your fixtures are making a good deal more light than mine. Definitely not seeing anything get hot enough to melt, let alone combust!
