A few things i wanted to point out. 1: the LED is not collimated. When retrofitting fixtures to LEDs, you need to add a small glass collimating lens to the chip to help it focus its light forward, that way less of it is wasted. 2: since LEDs run way cooler than bulbs, you didn’t *really* need the thermal sleeving for the wires, especially since they were going into an abrasion-resistant sleeve anyway. Doesn’t hurt anything, but doesn’t help it either. 3: that transformer you took out looks way heavier than the one you put in. I don’t know what your application is, but if these are flying, you should consider adding counterweights around the new transformer to balance out the fixture. When trussing, it is good practice to centerload the truss. If your lights aren’t balanced properly, the truss could tilt or sway, which can be extremely dangerous. 4: be careful what you cut on that LED! Many COBs use that strip on the side (that you cut to put spades on) to bridge the different sections of the LED together (in this case, 3). By cutting one tab, you would be disabling 1/3rd of the chip! 5: would have been cool to see it in action after the retrofit! Despite the potential issues, i want to compliment your use of tools! It looks like you’ve been doing stuff like this for a very long time, and I’m always glad to see people who are comfortable enough to modify equipment and give it a new lease on life! Many salutes to you!

thank you for all the tips you gave me. at that time i've made the video there wasn't so many video tutorial explaining what to do and what not to do. I've only few notions of electrical arguments, i'm not a PRO. Regarding the moving head, was a shitty and cheap moving head that i've found stored in the warehouse of the venue where i've been worked for a long time. I know at this point youtube is full of "master of tutorial" and a tone of video regarding that. I only made a SIMPLE video made by a SIMPLE guy for the owners of old stuff like that moving head before they throw it in the rubbish LOL. Cheers

I am modifying old HES trackspots.. alot of these mods ignore the dimming and run directly off transformer (better put a fuse there!) After spending a year working out the electronics.. I learn that these cobs are not so good for high intensity spots.. I will try to find 20 degree lens like one suggested here.. just the thrasher music was worse than the final light output but these vids are awesome

Problem on this conversion is, by replacing the bulb with COB led, the center of the bulb where it produced light are tiny enough to be focused thru a tiny hole and amplified by a lens.. The Cob Led however is different, the source of light is coming from combined small diode and produced a powerful light but wider space than a single source of light. When it need to focus in the tiny hole, only few diode can get thru that is why it get's weak to be amplified by the lens. Result? weak lighting output. Best way to get a good result from this conversion is find a tiny LED that produced true pure 100watts or if there's a single diode that can do the job.

I’m sure this would not that good at all. You need to focus the LED to a spot or it’s a wide loss of light.

Another one of these mods.... Where should I start? Maybe with the "music"? That was just some random noise. The wiring? Is that meant searious? And you don´t seem like you have thougt of the diferent colorspectrum... Incadesent, halogen, tungsten and leds all have diferent outputs of ligth. If the head would be using normal gels, it wouldnt be that much of an problem. but because of the heat an incadesent lamp produces they install dichroitic gels. these are made for specific amounts of wavelength and you will never get the same colors. some will just be shifted some tones, but other wont be brigth at all. also, these reflectors and optics are the most important an precise part of such fixtures. you probably didnt calculate the distances to the lenses.... also, as mentioned in oher coments, the beam angle of these leds is designed to be used as a wide flood, not a narrow spot. most of the ligth outputed will go into nowhere.
@kylelaser67055 жыл бұрын
Let's be honest. This fixture probably wasn't that amazing when it was in it's original configuration. It was never going on any tours. But for a small diy venue or festival it could be alright. People throw these kinds of lights out all the time, and they're often not worth the price of the lamp. Perfect for a slap together project. All that being said, dude definitely needs a reflector and probably a lens
