I took one look at the price if aqua soil and said no way. So went to the garden center and bought a bag of organic compost. It has turned out to be the best aquarium that we have ever had. The fish seem to be healther and the cherry shrimp are breeding well. We never had success with them before. The plants are doing fantastic.

Great video Bro, I have some questions: 1) if I use Vermi Compost as the base layer and cap it with white sand and start the dry start method, so after few months when I fill it up with water and add fishes, will there be any issues, I am planning to grow only Eleocharis Parvula 'Japanese' and Hydrocotyle Tripartita "Honda". 2) Is it possible to grow the plant mentioned above only in the river sand (may sound rookery but I am new to this). 3) Do I need to wash and clean the Vermi Compost soil before putting it in the aquarium? and lastly, 4) how much (quantity) of substrate do I need if I buy any aqua soil as my tank is only 30cm length x 30cm height x 17cm width. Thank you
@AQUAFLORA4 жыл бұрын
1) yes you can, add 1.5 inch of vermicompost and cap it with 2inch of sand (any inert sand would do). Buy a good filter ( watch my filtration video for details) and cycle (weekly 50% water change) your tank for 5-6 weeks before adding fishes. 2) No, you will have to use external fertilizer for just river sand for nutrients 3) it's optional, you can remove clumps and debris if you want. 4) 3 Ltr. 5) Let me know how you go. 😃 Don't forget to subscribe my channel if you haven't for full details and upcoming cool videos. @AQUAFLORA Жыл бұрын
Atleast 1-1.5" of compost is required for healthy plant growth and then cap it with thick 1.5" of sand evenly ( Don't try to make slopes or heights) to keep it flat. An additional step you can do is to sift the compost however i never did. Once sifting is complete, spray and wet the compost and leave it for 24 hrs and then put sand/morang evenly so that compost is fully buried. Pin the plants till sand depth roots will automatically reach the compost. Ping me on my insta or comment here if you need more help. Happy Aquascaping :)

@@AQUAFLORA What do you know about full-spectrum lighting? Is it really needed or can bright LEDs provide sufficient light to grow aquatic plants? It is a confusing subject to me. I want to use LED lights because they use very little electricity. Somewhere I got the idea that it is the blue and the red rays that the plants need. Is this correct? If so can you set strip lights on those colors and get the desired effect? I would like to set up cost effective lights without spending a fortune.
@AQUAFLORA2 жыл бұрын
Full spectrum lights are nothing but mimicking sunlight for aquatic plants. Few other factors also comes into play in growing aquatic plants i.e. co2, depth of tank and ofcourse soil and temperature specific to that plant species you want to grow. In most cases as a cheap Alternative is LED bulbs with color temperature of 6500k. What all plants are you planning and where are you located? Also please tell me your Tank size, CO2 setup you have etc.
