Have you ever considered plotting the core temperature against the fan rpm? This way you could create a graph that describes the efficiency of a given cooler. (You could even plot a regression function through all results and calculate the standard deviation for the difference between a result and the expected result using the regression function. Results greater than the standard deviation are worse than the average result, lower results are better)

If you don't have length or slot restrictions you get Gigabyte. If you don't have height restrictions you get the Pulse. If you have both you get the Red Dragon. Everyone else is out of the running! I ordered my Gigabyte card right when it hit $400 on yours and GNs recommendation. Considering how popular these reviews were for months, I'm wondering how manufacturers are going to react in the future. There has never been this much interest in across the board reviews of every partner model of a GPU series before this and I hope it hits MSI / ASUS / Asrock / XFX / etc where it hurts when they make faulty or deceptive designs that don't perform.

Thanks for doing the tests. I purchased the ASRock Challenger and found similar issues with heat. To solve for the heat issues, created a custom gaming fan profile which is basically a straight line running the fan at 2200RPM for consistency at any temp above 60C. I have a Mini ITX build in a Core V1 case and the normal two slot card Challenger 5700XT was the only one that fit other than the reference blower. I also purchased the Sapphire reference 5700XT with a waterblock for a microATX build. At stock both where not great performers but with some tweaking I was pretty impressed.

I love how the card looks, but hearing people mention several problems about it makes me feel scared about getting it. People say to have a common issue with this model too, they say that the VRMS are not in solid contact with the PCB because of not having a correct design (basically if you move up or down the pcb it will bend pretty easily and stop touching vrms, causing bad temps). Cheers!

Bought a mech oc cuz it was at least $50 cheaper than any other counterparts available here in canada. Besides performance wise even the red dragon( which is considered the “best” out of the bunch and also $100 more expensive ) only barely surpasses mech oc by a negligible margin. I don’t care about fan “noise” and those bullshit thermal stats unless they really visibly hampers the performance - which they do not.

@elirantuil5003 5 жыл бұрын
@@Orcawhale1 I appear to be suffering from stupidity at the moment. Why does that mean it doesn't make sense? Obviously with the focus being the price finding the ultimate cheap 5700 would save a lot of people from buying bad cheap 5700 cards. The results won't necessarily carry over from the xt test as the silicon is worse and a cooling solution which does the job for the xt won't necessarily do the same for a 5700 with xt bios that isn't intended and tested to work at those frequencies.
@Orcawhale1
@Orcawhale1 5 жыл бұрын
@@elirantuil5003 Yeah it would. RX 5700 is a "defective" XT, the Silicon is exactly the same. The only difference is in power output due to fully enabled chip on the XT. Nor does it have anything to do with bios.
@elirantuil5003
@elirantuil5003 5 жыл бұрын
@@Orcawhale1 I probably didn't explain myself well enough. I meant buying 5700 only to flash it with xt bios in order to remove the cap. This would essentially make it unbinned 5700xt, which may run hotter and consume more power to get to 5700xt like performance than a standard 5700xt. Which begs the question: can these cheaper cooling solutions handle it? The more expensive aib models probably can, but can the cheap ones do it as well? I think it is worth testing.

The only thing I’d mention is IF you plan on streaming, AMD doesn’t have as good of a built in encoder and Nvidia’s NVENC. Probably worth forking the extra 50-100 bucks for a 2070 super in that case. I just had a Red Dragon for 10 days and it went ahead and took a shit. PC froze while it was just idling by itself for about an hour, came back to find desktop frozen. Rebooted and POS wouldn't post anymore. Mobo diagnostic indicated GPU was the issue. Put in a different GPU and it posted just fine. Tried all kinds of stuff - swapping around PSU cables, plugging them into different spots on the PSU, etc... no dice.. Sending it back tomorrow. Some other guy on Reddit says that in the last month he's had two PowerColor RX 5700 XT's die on him, rather quickly I might add.

The 5700 XT's seem to have gotten all the attention, but what about the 5700 non-XT-models? The performance per dollar between the 5700 and 5700 XT is about equal, but the non-XT models have the advantage of not consuming as much power, and therefore should probably also run cooler and quieter. I would be interested in how these 5700 XT's match up against their equivalent non-XT counterparts in terms of performance, noise, and temperature, because I have noticed that the physical appearance between either model is identical.
