A 4 way light switch works exactly as your little double pole double throw switch does but without the center dead spot. Good explanation on your wiring.

Exactly what I did, a 4 way switch is even easier. I just forget sometimes to change it back (from reverse to forward).

To answer Jimmy Tate, it is such a pleasure to tap a hole, and then be able to reverse the tap back out of it instead of doing it by pure wrist action. I had a reverser exactly like this at work, and got spoiled by it, which is why I searched for and found this video. (Great presentation by the way, Kory's - you're a natural!)

I would like to thank you for this tip. I just installed one on my 6" Atlas/Clausing lathe and it is working great, plus it's a LOT cheaper than a US made reversing switch.

Nice explanation and implementation.

Well, I did it. Had to watch the video about 12 times because I was afraid I would blow my motor. But everything worked great.

I had thought about this ,but wasn't sure if these switches were heavy enough. Thanks so much👍

Sweet idea. Going to do this. Drill press should come this way anyway.

Great !. Done it today to my drill press, $2 DPDT switch total cost. Thanks for sharing

I'm doing 2 aetups with mounted motors on vertical 4x4 posts for buffing and grinding. All materials free minus the switches. Thanks for info. Cars hobbiest.and career hvac.

Kory, what model Delta is that? I’m looking at used drill presses and the Deltas I’ve seen do not have switchable leads. Google search just returns sites selling drills. Any idea on how to find drills with switchable leads? New or used.

I have an easier way your 2 Nd switch to be a 4 way switch but I like your off position better the 4 way switch will actually cross the wires for you

please excuse my ignorance here.. I'm used to switches like in a dc circuit where a power switch is simply opening or closing a circuit. why would a main switch have both power and neutral on it. what are the other lugs going to? 5 and 8 what about all the other connections for an ac motor
@KorysRides5 жыл бұрын
The switch I added is changing where the power and neutral are applied to the AC motor. The AC motor has multiple leads for multiple coils, which allows you to pick which direction is spins depending on how it is wired. The switch is a DPDT [double pole, double throw] if you google a diagram of that switch, it may make more sense.

Can anyone find a dpdt switch with only two positions (On-On)?
@neto0963 жыл бұрын
Can this be done in a 1 hp 110v/220v 60hz 1ph motor with 4 wires?
@KorysRides3 жыл бұрын
Possible, but can't tell without seeing it. There are thousands of variations in how motors are wired. Just google the manufacturer's product number and you should be able to find wiring diagrams.
@neto0963 жыл бұрын
Nope, you need to open the motor and find one pole of the start winding. I just mod mine and it works. Some motors, specially Taiwan made are not reversible from factory.

Will just adding the DPDT swich work on a capacitor start single phase 129v ac motor?
@KorysRides4 жыл бұрын
Depends on how the motor is wired. If it doesn't have two sets of field coils it won't work

For tapping holes.... tap in .... reverse... tap out.... Next part .... There are more expensive tools. Aka tapping head...but in a pinch...works pretty good....
@martinsemrok3 жыл бұрын
I had very many 3/8 NC threads to tap. Small items are fine (just loosen the vise and spin the part off), but my pieces were over 6 ft. long.My 4 way switch was easy to add (needed an extra electrical box to hold it ).
