"Wakacia", lol. Well, your not the only one to butcher Waukesha, lol. Who would have thought that after all these years I would end up in Waukesha. Originally from upstate NY, work would bring me to Waukesha. But that's a whole other story. I've always been a Cheap Trick fan but what really got ne hooked on Cheap Trick was his connections to Hamer Guitars and Paul Hamer.

Yeah, jack douglas, the man who discovered them butchered it as well.. thats where i heard it pronounced. In his interviews. I also realize people that do no traveling have no idea what people that do travel encounter from city to ciry that pronounce their names differently than others. I always challenge the people that mock me, go to paris or budapest and pronounce their city and street names, and watch people look strangely at you. Such a sill thing to get upset about when ive beem to three different cities in the u.s.a. called Piqua that all pronounce their town name a different way

I live in Rockford, IL. Born and raised here. We run into Rick all the time. Once when my (then) 3 y/o son and I were walking through a coffee house, he noticed Rick (who was sitting there drinking coffee - he was wearing zebra print skin tight pants). My son shouted “Look mommy! A zebra!” And that just tickled Rick. He stood up and high fived him and said that’s right little dude! And he gave him an autographed guitar pick. He carries those around with him and gives the, out a lot. He’s a wonderful man, and gives back so much to the Rockford Community.

I have lived in Waukesha all my life. I never saw them play at the sunset bowl but heard my story’s of people that saw them. They did play in the game room that at the time was a hall that you could rent for weddings. But some weekends they did have live music and charged a cover. Lots of the Midwest groups of the 70’s played there like cheap trick, REO Speedwagon, Sticks. The story I heard about CT is that Rick threw his guitar through the ceiling.

Most likely the bar that you had seen them in located in Kenosha was Sammy G’s Circus. They frequently played there a lot in the 1973 - 1975 era. Sometimes played there 4 nights in a row. American screenwriter, film producer Christopher Crowe used to watch the band perform there. He later created their world famous band logo. They also played at the Brat Stop located by I-94 Kenosha many, many times also.

Since many have already corrected you on Waukesha (Walk ish auw) I’ll fill you in on the show/dance hall. They have long since remodeled but I played that room multiple times back in the mid 80s. It was much darker and more plain than than now. They had a very wide stage with even higher shelves on the side. It used to pack people in. There are videos out there telling the story of how they were discovered.

You totally missed it. Their manager Ken Adamany brought them out to Los Angeles to play the Starwood. It was a showcase for the industry. I was hired to do pre promotion before the gig. I handed out the original t-shirts and put up posters announcing their arrival. I worked at Peaches and Licorice Pizza at the time. I actually got Tower Records on Sunset to put “welcome to LA Cheap Trick” on the marquee in the parking lot. There is a very early photo of Tom Petty and the heart breakers where Benmont Tench is wearing a Cheap Trick shirt. I worked with Stan Lynch (Petty’s original drummer) at Peaches , I gave Stan some shirts and this is how Benmont got his. I went to the show at the Starwood and of course was blown away. A bit of history from someone who was there.

Hey jordan, I enjoyed this video as well. It's interesting that the old building where Rick's parents own the antique music gift shop building is still there. It's sad that it's no longer open I am so grateful that my cousin and I went up there to visit that store back around 1995 before they closed it very unique indeed I remember it well because it was on mother's Day weekend and my cousin wished all of the ladies in the store a happy mother's day. It was bittersweet though because Rick's dad passed away shortly before we visited there was all kinds of musical instruments, some of the cheap tricks gold records on the wall add all kinds of knickknacks I believe Rick's mother and possibly one of his aunts were running the store he definitely looked like them I asked if they sold any cheap trick guitar picks and some guy opened up a desk drawer and pulled out some and just gave them to me a very memorable trip indeed:-)
