I often regale my meeting Cheap Trick in a Delaware club from a radio contest. I actually met the band and had them sign a 1977 Budokan photo I had been holding on to. After the meeting I was right up in front of the band onstage. It was a memorable night that I fondly remember. In the photos I looked like a roadie in a leather jacket and ripped Jean's (before ripped jeans were a fashion statement).

Bun E. was the band's unofficial archivist. When asked at the time why "Up The Creek" was never included on any CT album or compilation, Bun was quoted as saying "Because that song sucks." Yeah, the video's cheesy, but it was a product of its time, and the movie (and song!) are actually pretty decent. Now... if only CT could renounce the entirely of "The Doctor," that would be something.

Holy hell this is bad. I mean really, REALLY bad. And I say this as a huge Cheap Trick fan. They've been one of my top 3 favorite bands ever since I first heard their first album as a 12 year old kid in 1977. I've seen them 14 times through the years, beginning in June '79 and most recently in September 2018. I've watched them go through many strange twists and turns, peaks and valleys, line-up changes, label changes, what have you... but I have got to say, of all the many different things they've recorded through the years, this easily has got to be their *WORST SONG EVER* This is just so fucking awful it's embarrassing. Apparently Cheap Trick feels the same way. Rick once said something like "I must have been high when I wrote that one". I've never seen the movie. Have no desire to ever do so. I imagine it's just as bad as this song.

Did you ever listen to Who D'King???? That's their worst song ever....this is lighthearted campy 80's fun.....
@Brewzerr3 жыл бұрын
@@mrkinthdrk325 Yeah I'm not the biggest fan of All Shook Up. It had something like 3 decent songs, and then the rest of the album was basically just an experiment that went horribly wrong. To be honest I haven't listened to that song since it came out way back in 1980, but I do remember being terribly disappointed at the time. Still, not as disappointed as I was of their late 80's and early 90's albums. There's a whole big chunk of CT's career that I usually skip over (1986-1994) because it all sounds bad to me. As for this particular song (Up The Creek), I had never heard it before until I saw this post. Hence my negative reaction to it. I'll never listen to it again either.
@mrkinthdrk3253 жыл бұрын
@@Brewzerr I'm one of those who doesn't get the appeal or the love people have for that album....The Doctor had a few good songs, lap of Luxury was really good, Busted wasn't bad.....never a big fan of Woke Up With A Monster, they started a little bit of a comeback with CT '97......
@Brewzerr3 жыл бұрын
@@mrkinthdrk325 I personally think CT97 was where they got back on track after a long period in the wilderness. Some would argue that's looking at it all wrong, since they experienced a ton of commercial success with stuff like "The Flame", but that era of Trick, the recorded stuff at least, just isn't for me. The Cheap Trick that I fell in love with in the late 70's had a whole different feel and sound, and they kind of abandoned that beginning with "All Shook Up", and didn't return to their roots until much later with CT97. They remained a GREAT live act through it all though. Saw them many times, through all the different eras and they always delivered live, at least they did with Bun E. I've gotta say, it really doesn't have the same magic without him. Another one of their late-era albums I really love is "Rockford". Some great classic Trick tracks on that one.
@mrkinthdrk3253 жыл бұрын
@@Brewzerr Yeah, big fan of Rockford, and I really liked Bang, Zoom and In Another World......didn't find The Latest, Special one or We're All Alright that good.....I feel every band has had their share of clunky stuff, when you've been around for 40+ you're bound to.....thanks for the discussion :)
