When My 86 Vette was stock + K&N Filter I raced it (1995) it had 20 speakers, 4 Amplifiers, 4 Subwoofers, a 1/4 mile of wiring, and extra battery and battery isolator... It scaled at 3550 lbs with me in it that day. It ran 14.30, 14.35, 14.44, and 14.37 @ a best MPH of 96.6 and worst of 96.1 through a stock 700r4 automatic. If the stereo was not present I'm sure 14.0 would be possible. that was at a drag altitude of 1760 feet at lebanon valley dragway in NY on a 81 degree day sept 2nd 1995. I have a 85 Z51 Corvette and the torque is a 10 on the fun meter. The handling yields 1 G of force which was more than the Ferrari that year. Z51 was a handling package that includes a bigger sway bar, stiffer shocks, steering wheel travel is shorter and geared a bit different, and a transmition cooler. There is no traction control and ABS so you have to drive these things. Torque = FUN!!!! Also the auto is faster off the starts than the manual.

To put it into perspective, under the old 'gross' HP rating system, the L98 makes around 300 - 320 HP, which is what you would see on an engine dyno. The intake manifold handicaps the L98, by at least 30 - 40 HP on the big end, but offers great economy & acceleration (torque) below 4,500 RPM.

Do you understand the difference between gross & net HP? You would lose this bet, ten-times over. The L98 isn't a terrible engine, it's terrible primarily due to the intake manifold design. @@TheEnd-eg6wq Have you ever seen an engine tested on the dyno? Of course you have. The same methods today and all the tricks listed above, performed by most engine builders for maximum power (in a dyno cell), were used back in the 60s & early-70s by the OEM (gross vs. 1972+ SAE net ratings). That's what I was referring to, and in that case, the L98 architecture, easily produces 300 HP (just look at the ET / MPH of a stock C4). There is another, 30 - 40 HP @ 6,000 RPM by changing the intake manifold alone, with minimal torque losses below 4,000 RPM. We're still talking about a 220 RWHP car stock with an auto, closer to 270-280 RWHP with a manifold swap / longtube headers / x-pipe / race mufflers / tune / etc. - so, who cares? The engines overall are dogs though, not worth even messing with in 2022 when the cost of a pair of cylinder heads, exceeds a JY LSx engine.

@@AmericaFirstKorey you're absolutely right. I think my main issue with the Vette is having a vette that could potentially get gapped by a Maverick. That Mustang is about taking the wife and kids to the beach on a sunny day and having a nice V8 noise going on with the top down. A Vette is about speed and race car dynamics. One of these cars is still relevant in its purpose today, and one is not. Oh, and having one car sticker twice as much new as the other, and yet have an interior that's falling apart while the cheaper car's interior still looks good? That's something worth noting, too.
