Cheap vs Expensive Drink Vending Machine

I looked up Kopi luwak, and it really seems like it was discovered through the desperation of the farmers during the Dutch colonial period. The Dutch brought over the coffee from the middle east to grow in Indonesia. My guess is that the Dutch didn't allow the Indonesian farmers to use the coffee beans they grew, so they harvested it from the animal dung, only to find that the poop coffee actually tasted better somehow, and now it's a global export and considered a delicacy!

Extra info to add to this, if i remember it correctly, the luwak animal will only eat the best coffee fruit. thats why traditionally, the farmers would let luwak out to roam the coffe plantation to eat whichever coffee fruit it want, then the farmer would collect the poops to extract the coffee beans. Those farmer said that there is something in luwak stomach that will process the coffee bean so it would have that specific taste, an enzyme or something. nowadays the farmer would just feed the luwak directly, they would also keep luwak in a small cage, instead of letting it roam free.

If you have any allergies to a nut or seed, best skip the cheap machine. I doubt the any part of that machine is cleaned between cups so there is a lot of cross contamination.

Vending machines like that first one always comes and goes, the only unique one that sticks is the real orange juice vending machines and are found throughout Singapore.

Sad but true. The only interesting vending machines I've ever seen here were the fairy floss and the freshly squeezed OJ ones otherwise it's just the usual boring coke machines 😢

In Melbourne there is a relatively new Asian supermarket in Caulfield and they have installed a vending machine that makes all these different kind of cold drinks from coffees to smoothies to ice drinks and fruit drinks (about 30 different drinks in all). It’s the closest of a type of Singapore/japanese vending machine I’ve seen in Australia (apart from in 7/11 with the new 7/11 Japanese style smoothie making machines they’ve installed).

I was so curious about the first drink, Lavo, I had to go look it up. You can choose with or without sugar. I wondered if the blending liquid was milk, or soy milk, but they just use hot water. I would really like to try it. I am happy you got to try the Kopi Luwak. I would also like to try it once in my lifetime. Thanks for sharing the experience.

@LadyMisalein Sort of. The grains and nuts are ground, some very fine. Then it seems like the hot water is blended to soften some and release the flavours, which also thickens it some. Personally, it sounds yummy to me because I like nutty, toasted grain flavours and sometimes milk can make me feel not so good.

if you come to indonesia you can get way cheaper kopi luwak less than that price but in come in a sachet (i only know that kopi luwak come in a sachet because my dad love drinking coffee and one of his coffee his drink is kopi luwak and i don't like that much drinking coffee either soo) and maybe there's taste different from that kopi luwak from vending machine and from sachet.

Kopi Luwak seems a bit over-hyped and overrated, to me. Like the other guy a few comments down, I agree that Aceh and Sumatra Mandheling are better coffees for much less money--take it from the die hard coffee drinker, here.

I am sorry but putting ice in the most expensive coffe its like painting your lambo with a spray can. It delute the taste. Btw as a coffe lover, Luwak is overpriced this day. Please try Aceh Gayo or Sumatra Mandailing. It not expensive at all, taste unique too

I've heard how good it is and I'm a bit of a coffee snob. That being said, you would have probably gotten the true taste of the coffee if you had it hot and black, adding sugar and cream or milk changes the taste of coffee.
