You did better with $3 paints and cellulose paper than I do with professional paints and cotton paper! I love this!! But I do need to give myself a break. I've only been paining for 1.5 years.

Ooh glad you like it and yeah dont be so hard on yourself, I already made my peace with things taking time. Its why I find process more enjoyable than end result.

Omg, talking about the paper... I found a "watercolor travel sketchbook" on clearance a while back. I'd put it into my watercolor storage box because while I wasn't painting at that moment, I knew I would be soon? Well, I tried painting in it a few days ago and holy crap, if I didn't know better I would think either I was the problem or my paints were bad. Seriously, the color wouldn't move on the paper!! The color would just suck down into the paper immediately- no moving, no blooming, no lifting was possible! I have a tiny sketchbook I made from Dollar Tree index cards, and my watercolors work so much better even on those cheap index cards! I'm not sure what to use that little "watercolor" sketchbook for, but it's definitely not for watercolor!

I had this type of chalky watercolors for a long time. Recently I realized that mixing in some liquid glue in my paint mixture (NOT the washable kind, so the paint doesn't really rewet on the mixing palette once dry) helped the transparency and enabled me to layer them. You did a fantastic job challenging yourself to use the paints!

Definitely makes me appreciate good art supplies. I only have a few but at least I have them. My advice if you work a small format- the expensive art supplies will last much longer.

It's so awesome how you took something for kids and something cheap into a masterpiece 💖💖💖. I am not sure but I think that these watercolors are dye based since they are very transparent almost like ink mixed with water if you know what I mean. Something I really try to cope with is that where i live it is hard to get your hands on high quality paint like Daniel Smith of course we have nice quality paints but they don't have the Properties of high quality paints have like light fastness and effects my art alittle. Lots of love from Egypt

Of course, it doesnt matter all that much if you have the best quality supplies really, you can make the best of the supplies you actually can get your hands on :) Have fun with your painting!

Wow! I can see the struggle you had w the paints with the flow, opacity and fillers obviously in this "amazing" set. But I still love the end result and your experience with watercolors as well as your signature style shine through. I used a crappy set myself last summer trying to imitate this watercolor artist Terri Harrison's style (landscapes - not my preferred 😉. I am pulled to portraits). Anyway despite this painting wonder I opened up my sketchbook a year later and it wasn't half bad. I keep telling myself - I got the skills!

The "drawing your art in my style" challenge is quite prevalent with a lot of KZbin artists. If you search by the quoted phrase above, you'll see a lot of results. I very much like seeing artists interpretations of other artists' work. 💗 This came out amazing!

interesting what you say about the flow of the cheap colours. I'm completely new to painting and have been following a lot of tutorials and while i'm aware that i have neither skills nor practice yet, i have been wondering how the first drop of paint on the paper could already look so different between mine and the tutorial, when we haven't even really done anything yet. So i'll take comfort in the thought that some of my struggles might not be due to me doing anything wrong and be more patient about not being able to copy all the techniques perfectly

Важно не то чем рисует мастер, а как он рисует. Это действительно работает всегда и везде, дешёвые материалы в руках искусного акварелиста становятся дороже в 10 раз, а то и больше. У тебя есть чему поучится

So? My goal with clearly stated and it was the particular paints. Besides, if you use too many new supplies at once, you can't really tell which one is the reason you're painting is going south. This way, since you know your paper, you can feel how the paints work.
