Cheap way to Clean and Polish Harley Shovelhead Rocker Boxes

Here is a DIY to clean (baking soda blasting) and then polish Harley Davidson shovelhead rocker boxes.
First time trying baking soda blasting. It worked well, but not as good as I thought it.
Also polishing out the raw casting to smooth it out.

Nice work! I have a 79 shovel engine that someone painted the rockers on so I'm gonna strip and polish them and repaint the crank cases.

Master Of none tv cool. I thought about powder coating these, but changed my mind. I ended up using a buffing wheel to finish them.

@@motofun72 I thought about powder coat also. I have one of the harbor freight units that I've been using for quite a few years that once I got the hang of it it works pretty good!

I never even thought of using a Dremel tool! That probably would have made things go a lot faster! I would start out with 600-800 grit wet sandpaper and would sand to an even finish getting all the scratches out within reason:) then move up to finer grits. Usually ended up at 1200 to 1500 grit. I then would use my bench grinder with polishing wheels, but then I discovered that White Diamond polish that you showed and it would polish out really nice! I have found that household ammonia cleans aluminum really good. Try soaking a small part sometime and see if that helps get the crud off. Like you, I have more time than money, so I always try to find a way to do the job myself;)

You need sand paper roll first than go to your lighter polish stuff...😎✌..you could 80+hrs in fixing the finish on that part....

Instead of the dremel also use steel wool with the White Diamond.

Actually the best way to do these is the sand paper step process. Start with 600 all the way up to 3000

I do this as a hobby. I have taken chrome plated billet and removed the chrome and polished to a mirror image. I also have a custom 1998 Titan Gecko RM with the S&S 113 HP billet engine. Currently is at 150HP at the rear wheel. I’m trying to find a way to polish the fins and jugs. I’ve polished and sanded the bottom jugs which look amazing.
