You can dip your aluminum foil in Coca-cola when cleaning up that chrome....works pretty good, I've found. Thanks for the video and tips! Great looking bike! Gotta ride on the back of one back in '72 when girl down the street got one. I was a senior in high school. She was cute and obviously had her act together.....

When I bought my V Star 250 two years ago, I got this organic cleaner (Cycle Magic Clean & Shine) from amazon to clean every part of the bike first. Works pretty darn good! Then I used Mcguire's Last Touch Spray Detailer to polish everything. Also removed the light rust stains and pits from the front side of the front exhaust pipe! That bike looked brand new when I got it finished! Safe for painted surfaces too, unlike acid-based compounds.

Don't forget to run your engine once the ACF-50 has been applied to seal the job. It'll light smoke up a storm but it's unbelievable as far as corrosion protection goes. Best part about ACF-50 is that when youve done a full blown clean up job, it feels like the equivalent of that fresh smell you get in the interior of a car when you put a fragrance tree in after a deep clean 😍

I just picked up a 73 CB750 that needs a LOT of TLC...I just don't know if I have the patience for this. First I need to see what it even looks like because it's currently covered in 50 years worth of grease and grime. It does make a big difference though so maybe I'll give it a go.

I would have thought a Brass brush on the Dremel? Too soft? Am about to attempt this on three Hondas
@GoldGuyRides7 ай бұрын
Brass brush isn't too soft for aluminum. If you're cleaning steel or cast iron, use a steel brush. Don't use a steel brush on an aluminum engine though because you will scratch it all up.

Use carb cleaner to get rid of the metal polish residue for a faster clean up.
@STho20510 ай бұрын
Carb cleaner is great at stripping the old clear coat Honda sprays on their side covers....but it can also work its way into gaskets causing an oil leak if used on an assembled bike. Best if used on a rag in that case A wipe with ammonia or kerosene wet rag will do it too....then rebuff with a dry wheel.

No no no As an Aircraft Engineer and A&P Mechanic you never ever contact or clean any Alumina with anything with steel or iron. Steel or iron wire wheels and steel wool will corrode any and all Alumina metal. You may not see the Alumina part corrode right away but they will corrode very fast. Why? It is the microscopic particles of steel that touch the alumina that cause the alumina to corrode and once you do a wire wheel or steel wool rub there is nothing that will fix it.

@dipling.pitzler76502 ай бұрын
A very bad idea using steel brushes or steel wool on aluminium engine parts! This destroys the original protective clear coat lacquer! Do this and you will at least have to repeat again and again! Use Dry ice blasting instead! PS: That round cover is polished aluminum not steel and now all "cleaned" parts are covered with fine scratches!
@pkaramer18 күн бұрын
NEVER use steel on aluminum.U develop surface pores,and in a few months pitting will develop within.Nothing except nylon brushes or polishing rouge.
