Activated charcoal can be reactivated and cleaned by putting it in direct sunlight for several hours. The bad stuff gets 'cooked' out and you can do this over and over again, basically never having to replace it. What I do is use one of those shiny aluminum turkey roasting pans with the charcoal spread across the bottom of the pan, and put it of a bookshelf. Easy to cook in the sun to recharge and gives LOTS of surface area for the charcoal to work its magic. Very effective!

@@mannycalvar4254 I used charcoal I bought from Amazon, it is sold for usage in aquariums but is great for this purpose. I am not a chemist but I believe you could smash, say, charcoal briquets, you want as much surface area as possible but not dust, small chunks, or that is my understanding, and that should work too. I think briquets are made of the same stuff as the aquarium filter stuff, just a bigger size/shape so that should work too, but no guarantees, I am no expert.

I wouldn't say that it Cooks It. What happens is the activated charcoal absorbs moisture, which in turn absorbs odors. When you put it in the sun, the sun removes the moisture and the charcoal is ready to use again.

@@TheOneanjel That certainly sounds plausible, and if you prefer another word, no problem. I still likes cooks, it conveys what you describe conveniently--direct sunlight cooks out the impurities is close enough for me.

No, you do not. They will not have moisture in them when first using, so no need to bake out the moisture in the charcoal beforehand.

Would they work if i out the bag inside a seal tight container with the item that produce bad oder and still work? How long does it take for the odor to be completely removed?

You can put them in direct sunlight for a few hours. I'm not sure if sun lamps would do the job properly, I haven't tried it .

Activated charcoal is very similar to BBQ briquettes. You would dispose of in same way.

I think these would absorb kitchen smells. You can use them in the refrigerator. I’m not sure how much time it would take.
