@dawolyan13 I'm no professional audiofile but I've had plenty sets of speakers and these sound good. I use them as my front mains in a 7.2 surround system. I listened to vinyl on them as well. Pink Floyd's dark side of the moon sounds great. Bass is good for a bookshelf. Good mids and highs. Can't complain for 400.
@NightFlight19739 күн бұрын
@@dawolyan13 They are excellent. If you audition them for a few days and should it turn out you don't like them it won't be lost experience. You'll still be able to understand what this speaker has to offer. Its easy and fun to drive. Its tilted to detail, and just a smidgen too light in heft perhaps is my only complaint. I sold mine to practically no loss - still a very cool speaker and definitely worth the interview.

Love your reviews, and this video is very helpful. However, I have a question that very few seem to address. In our main living area, we have a television and 5.1 surround system that is mainly for background music, television and movies where we aren’t as concerned about serious, theater quality sound. What IS important in this system is dialog clarity. We’ve gotten to the point where we turn on closed captions for many of the shows and movies we watch on this system. Current system is a Denin receiver with Elac Debut 2.0 F6.2 towers and matching center. Dialog clarity is pretty good, but my wife would like to get away from tower speakers. So…finally my question…what bookshelf speakers would you recommend that would fit this system…good for music with very clear dialog for television/surround. Is there such a thing? Go to one of the Elac bookshelf options? One option I’m considering is the Vanguard Scout monitors. Friend in Austin carries them. Great price, but not particularly efficient so not sure how they would work in a larger room. Anyway, looking forward to any thoughts you can share!

Thanks for your videos. I'm considering upgrading speakers, for home theater and some music listening. I recently upgraded my AVR to a nice midrange Denon unit, and will be using the speakers with that for a 5.1 setup. Current speakers are a Bose Acoustimass 10 set that are as old as the Sony receiver that was replaced... I may have a powered sub that might work, going to look into that while I continue to research speakers... I have been debating some of the less expensive stuff from Klipsch and Polk, and I need fairly small ones for my space, just looking for a bit more full/round/warm sound vs the Bose stuff, for when I'm playing music, not really looking for a total hifi experience as when I want to REALLY enjoy music I do that in nice headphones, with a PA setup that I use for my business, or with my 70s stereo system in my hobby room. anyhow, cheers and thanks again for your videos, Happy Holidays

Wasting money is a terrible thing and I am always on a mission to find great quality for the lest amount of money possible. I would not call myself a "cheap" person because I will absolutely spend the money if its warranted. I pick a budget and stick with it. I found you on my adventure of replacing my soundbar on my TV. I hate these sound bars. Coming from someone who primarily uses nicer headphones for music over speakers this is all new for me. i am all about the clarity yummyness of the mids and highs and good separation which is why I really like headphones. I am not a bass head but the bass better be there if needed especially for home theater. The TV needs speakers.... Getting ready to pull the trigger on BasX TA1 with a set of Emotiva XB2 (on sale!!) . I am absolutely torn between the XB2's and the Elac Debut 3.0 (5 1/4 woofer).. sure wish I could hear them in person. I plan on using a subwoofer probably the Speedwoofer 10S MKII. I'm so glad you can hear how painful the Polk Ring Tweeter is, like I do. I bought the R200 and loved the punch!! But the tweeter caused me headaches and hearing loss. Returned it. Polk designers chose not to roll off that tweeter...so it's blasting you with hyper sonics above 12khz like a Pest deterent squeeler device. Polk's website and the speaker documents mention the hearing loss. I love Polk speakers in the home and car but hate that tweeter. I run Polk car audio, TV soundbar, even the vintage SDA2 monoliths! I've thought about removing the R200 tweeter and using the largest Heil tweeter, but now I'm going to do that with the Micca RB42 as a fun project. Keep it up Randy we ❤ and support you man 🤠👍 best of luck 🍀

Hearing loss? Seriously, pump the brakes.
@johnnyhiett8 күн бұрын
true. simply look at the published and measured frequency response. Polk chose to not roll off inaudible high frequencies. They are blasting the ears and brain like an Ultrasonic Pest Repeller . Typical crossovers or tweeters do roll this off. Modern digital music does transmit higher frequencies. Have you lived with a Polk ring radiator? Have you even heard one? 😝

@wallacestewart5305 But have you lived with a ring radiator? 😝 It is nothing like any previous tweeter. Matthew would never have let this squeeler grace our ears. Respectfully... If you don't own ring radiators, you can't understand. No other tweeter has hurt my ears and brain like these things. Please, simply get some ring radiator speakers and play modern hires recordings on them and see for yourself.. And yes I have 1983 SDA2 and play them daily. Along with 1972 Heil ESS AMT1, recent ESS Heil LTD, Elac 5.2, Emotiva B1+ and many more. No music source before 1983 produced extremely high frequenies like modern hires content is capable of. Best of luck to you. 🍀😃

On the low end everybody should consider Vulkkano (active) speakers. I got the Arc 5 as my 2nd system with their Sub 8 and it's like 300 $/€ for the 2.1 system. They don't look like great speakers as the case is made of plastic. If you knock the case, it doesn't sound like a high level product as its stiffness is relatively low. So is it just another cheap speaker? No. For whatever reason the tweeter's and the midrange driver's quality is outstanding and way above what's common for that price range. Most importantly: the sound is simply amazing. I wouldn't prefer it over my Bowers&Wilkins 704, but considering its price, it is the best hifi deal I've ever had. In my eyes, the company should add an luxury edition for like twice the price with better cases (more stable) cases and it will probably result in a sound quality like speakers that are somewhere 700 to 1000 $. I mean passive speakers. And these are active, so you don't need an amplifier or cables, etc. The only uncertain thing is longevity. I use these speakers since 3 months and everything is allright. But a hifi product should work for like 10 years plus. I am not quiet sure if they can do that.

I'm not an audiophile by any means, but like a good sounding equipment and I can say that both of the choices are good. I have got a certain budget, and tight space at home, I wanted something small, but sounds BIG... as for my daughter I have made a choice before (as this set was on offer), then for myself I have had few main factors, like a CD player, internet radio (a bit of flaw in this unit and I think I'll be buying a Wiim Ultra) and Tidal play, DAB radio and bluetooth in a main unit. In regards to speakers I have been considering Monitor Audio Bronze 100, QAcoustics 5020 and finally selected Dali Oberon 3 as they, even if not delivering a lot of, as you're saying OOMPH, been sounding full, fast, not harsh and more neutral than others. Never before I have been even expecting I will say that I like more neutral sound that OOMPH :)

The irony of you sitting there in this video as the “cheap” audio man with a McIntosh T-shirt is not lost on me. Well done good and faithful servant of the audiophile world!! 😂🤣😇

Cheap but only if it's affiliate ofc. He doesn't care about amazing cheap vintage speakers/amps or other brands etc. At this point the channel is just brand/amazon specific marketing and not his viewers

@@scottmackey4182 I think it’s a “gimme” shirt. No big whoops. It’s probably a freebie given at a show. It’s a mole-hill, not a mountain. Jeez

Since when are t-shits not cheap? I see a 15 year old walk by my shop in a Supreme t-shirt I'm not assuming he can afford anything from that stupid line. McIntosh equipment, on the other hand, can be affordable "relatively" but is never cheap.

@@Astrodicted I actually love vintage stuff. What speakers should I get in. I tried to get some ADS once but they were always trashed out

Regardless of price must be a joke, the top twenty speaker systems start at over $200,000.00 dollars and go up in price to a Hart Audio D & W Aural Pleasure for $5,000,000.00. Ray

Sir, all at this price "better" sound good . That is a lot of money

I find the constant recommendation for ELAC products a little suspicious. I know that different reviewers kind of get caught up in certain brands but the ELAC, Emotiva, Geshelle Labs bent of this channel seems pretty redundant. Maybe you just really love these products, I can't fault you for that! Personally I do not find the ELAC speakers very interesting. Different stokes I guess.

When everyone on real youtube audio channels is calling you a "sell out", you're probably a sell out.
