A couple of months ago I bought a pair of Q Acoustic 5050, and I liked them so much that I decided to purchase these 5040, for a smaller room, giving an opinion about them, is really simple, they are simply Sublime, defined treble as drawn by Rotring, deep bass , but controlled, these 5040s have the same philosophy as The Ivy League, if you are a brilliant student you stand out, but if not, they don't help you, I mean, if the recording is good, the 5040s shine incredibly, and they allow you appreciate every detail, they are dynamic and lively, now, if the recording is no good enough, you see all the flaws. Listening to I can explain by Rachelle Ferrell, with these 5040, is to live the experience of seeing her sing in your own home. Extraordinary, they are clearly differentiating, if you are looking for definition and bass control, it is difficult to find something better out there.

ummm, it's a tough question, the 5050 are more exuberant, they have more power, more punch, the soundstage is bigger, but you will only get the most out of it if the place is spacious...they are both extraordinary, you can hear all the layers of the music...the 5040 unbeatable quality-price ratio, for rooms up to 30 m2. You won't go wrong with any of them. all the best.

Thanks for sharing. Quick question on your 5040 speakers. Each speaker comes with a stabilizer attached to the rear of the speaker. I've seen 2 different measurements for the width of the speaker including the stabilizer 1) 11.5" from Q Acoustics & 2) 14.2" from Crutchfield Can you confirm which is correct including the rear stabilizer ? Ssssugar honey iced tea! Q~5040 or ~5050? (a) I want to buy my last pair of speakers this time. (Ideally… Maybe.) (b) 5050s are 2” deeper than the 5040s. In your year-ago video you specifically mentioned they need to be out from the wall…👀 …is 5” enough? How much do they need? (I can have 7” with the 5040s…cuz they’re a tad smaller…🤔) I can pull them out more if I want. I’m just going off of where I put the floor standers I already have. 🤷‍♂️ trying to give the doctor all the information he needs! (c) I hate to say it, but the speakers are gonna be in a sort of alcove for media… I know: “corner BAAD!” But I’m kinda stuck with reality… I’m open to suggestion. Their speakers are really nice visually, but unfortunately their 5020 is a big step backwards performance wise(can't speak for these towers on review). Treble is boosted at least 5db over the lower midrange...and they say 53hz @ -6db but really it's around 75hz for the -6db point(I use bookshelves with less than stellar extension, it's expected for a small speaker, but honest specs are also important). So what does this all mean? Very little bass output and very boosted treble. In 2023 I just don't see the reason for a pair of $900 speakers to be "voiced" this way unless you're Klipsch, ML, B&W going for that Best Buy sound lol. Hot treble does not mean detailed or "dynamic". It just means hot treble

I compared the Q Acoustics 5040 with the Dali Oberon 5. Both are excellent floor standing speakers. However, I preferred the Dali and sent back the Q Acoustics. The Dali sound even more natural and pair much better with my Denon AVR. The 5040 were a bit too "punchy" in my setup for my taste. But as always, there is always some personal taste involved and other people will certainly prefer the 5040. If I hadn't heard the Dali for comparison, I probably would have been super happy with the 5040.

I have the Dali "Concept 1" bookshelf and like the sound compared to my Tannoy bookshelf. Considering an upgrade but in Australia, the Q Acoustics are nearly $700 more expensive. This comment has made rethink which way to go.

I bought Concept 20 to use as a second system … I liked them so much I went up to 30 and now they are my favourite listen. They seem to have achieved a neutral speaker which reveals loads of subtle detail without adding brightness … excellent price too !

Namaste from hot and humid India. Have been running the older QAcoustics 5030 Floorstanders for the last 3 years. After the initial burn in, toe them in slightly, give them some room from the rear walls and these babies are all the speakers I need. I've had my neighbours come in to join me for listening sessions and sometimes they phone in with requests. I absolutely love these speakers.

@@deadline7610 The true measure is 14.5", wing-tip to wing-tip. Performed the measurement myself just now:) That is over double the width of the actual speaker cabinet (7.1"). Which makes their footprint, the actual floor area you need to place them, comparable to that of my Lintons, which are 2" deeper, but 'only' 11.8" wide. That 11.5" value is actually the depth of the 5040 cabinet. For some reason all publications did a sloppy copy-paste job from the same inaccurate source on 5040 dimensions, and none get it right. Not even Q-acoustics themselves seem to know what the size of their speaker really is. Total coincident: just last night I decided to swap my 5040's back to my Lintons, just for fun. I didn't need to free any floor space at all, but my smallish room suddenly seems a lot smaller with the big-baffle Linstons staring at me instead of the slim profiled 5040's...

I bought the Arendal 1961 on sale and I’m pleased. In an ideal world, I would have auditioned the Q5040 and Polk R600. But yeah box and return… Bought the Onkyo 7100 for a great price and at times I’m blown away, yet still questioning return and move to RZ50 for the class A and bump in power for 2 channel. Some maintain little difference and some say very evident. What’s enough and yet we live with things right. That balance of cheap and enjoying a click or 3 up is clearly getting explored here. Any thoughts would be appreciated before my 60 day audition is up.

You should check out the Revel F36. They weren't even on my radar when I went to listen at my local hifi shop. They blew away everything else in the general price range that they had in the room (B&W, Sonus, etc). Wait, when you reviewed the Klipsch floor standers a while back, you were smiling and hugging them. You looked like you were smitten. While this review of the 5040s is very positive, I'm not seeing the same kind of emotional attachment. If you weren't already married, I might have to say, "As your friend, I don't think she's the one for you." 🙂 It looks like they're at the very same price point as the Klipsch RP-8000F II, which also are very dynamic. They also seem to be similar in that they both look to be focused on sound, not putting as much into the finish. So I'd be curious to hear your comparison of the two.

The nice thing about Qacoustics is that they continue to hone and refine their products from a good base design point and principles ...I have older floor Qacoustice 3050 standers that look the same, have a great dynamics, very smooth, refined, punchy and engaging sound ...but imagine each new generation just get better and more refined and defined....especially when the technology from their flagships trickle down.😂 So if tou cant afford these still go listen to older models which. Can still be bought new for a bargain price!

Thank you for the review! A lot of reviewers seem to really like these speakers. I spent a little time searching the Internet for objective test data for the Q Acoustics 5040 (e.g., frequency response, waterfall, harmonic distortion, etc.), and did not find anything. If anyone knows where test data for these speakers is posted, I would appreciate a link. I did find Erin's Audio Corner review of the 5020, but he was not very impressed with that model.

I've tried 10-12 pairs of speakers since May. The Q Acoustics 5010's in nearfield are a hard pass FOR ME. Why I'm saying this is (come to find out) you really have to take other people's recommendations with a grain of salt. Great reviewers like Randy can point you in a general direction but you really have to live with the component in your situation to see if YOU like it. Take full advantage of speaker retailers return policies. Try several that interest you. I've landed far,far away from what I thought I wanted based on reviewers' recommendations.

Randy, I love Tool. I have every CD and Vinyl except for Enima. Thanks recommending Eulogy. First time listening to all my Tool albums since getting a real hi-fi system. I A/B CD’s vs Streaming, CD’s sound better with the same DAC. Also I really respected Tool for standing against digital downloads and streaming for many years, until August 2 2019, you had to own physical media to listen to Tool unless you Ripped your own CD’s. I was sad to see them fold but I guess a new generation can now listen to them…

If you're looking for bookshelf speaker to review, please look at the HSU HB-1 MK2 or their HSU CCB-8. Unlike just about every other bookshelf speaker, these aren't saturated by KZbin reviews yet.

It's strange that the 5020s and 5040s have been universally acclaimed apart from Erin's Audio Corner, whom also happens to be the only one to do measurements. Does it suggest that measurements are a load of nonsense?

It might be that everyone else is wrong/an influencer or it might be that most people can't perceive small differences at a specific frequency when listening in their less than ideal environment to a dynamic source - e.g. music - rather than a test tone.

Stereophile also reviewed the 5040's including the full suite of measurements. They were very impressed (surprised even!) with the 5040's performance across the board and gave them a "highly recommended". Measurements can only tell you so much about the actual sound of a speaker. In the case of the 5040 reviews it appears that the single, outlier, negative review is just that... one voice of criticism amongst dozens of extremely positive reviews and industry awards. That many people can't be wrong or even influenced by a relatively small, young, speaker company from the UK.

I had the 3050i for awhile and I did find them unnatural sounding, the crossover between the tweeter and woofer wasn't seamless. Sold them after half year. I think QA is very good at making really small speakers...

What HiFI had the Q Acoustics 3050i as the fave until Dali took the gold medal a couple of years ago. I have the 3050i's and regret buying them. Yes, they are not the quality level of the 5040's. Despite the reviews, they DO have a house sound. The 3050i's are great for classical music but suck a little bit at vocals (female in particular). My old KEF Q1's (yes Q1) and ancient Velodiyne sub just beat the Q Acoustics to death. Only keep the Q Acoustics in living room as they save space, no sub taking up floor space. The best thing is that the old KEF Q1's are now in my MASTER bedroom along with the sub. That is my critical listening room now. Now I get to lay in bed an listen to tunes :-). And that's the way it is.

I had the 3050i for six months but sold them. Tonal reality was not very good and the driver integration wasn't great. I think the QA is better in building small speakers. I'll recommend Triangle Borea BR08 or wharferdale over the 3050i.
