I have narrowed my search down to Fluance's three speakers. Signature $199 (30-120 watt 60Hz - 20KHz) or their Xl8s $179 (40-80 watt, 50Hz - 20KHz) or their SX6W $149 (30-100 watt, 60Hz - 20KHz) I am hearing great things about all three. What bums me out is I can't hear each of them at a dealer since there are no audio shops anymore. You are the first one to say that the base is all right on the Signature. Others have said you need to add a sub-woofer to any of the three although I have noticed the xl8s goes down to 50Hz instead of the other two which only goes down to 60Hz. Also some say the xl8s performs better than the Pioneer speakers that are around the same price. And the cheap one of the group, the SX6W is the best looking of the group, with a total walnut scheme. Have you checked out either of these other two Fluance's? I just can't decide with out hearing them.

About 6 months ago I bought the Fluance Elite Series Home Theater system , mine came with the bookshelf speakers as my left and right speakers . I powered them with a Yamaha home theater system amp which sounded good on movies but fell off when listening to my music . So I used the amp and powered sub with my new Elite speakers and let me tell you the difference was like night and day . These bad boys can handle a lot of power without distortion when playing a movie or music which sold me on Fluance . So I thought if the Elite speakers sounded this good then the Signature Series should be absolutely bad ass . I bought the Signature Series along with a Fluance 10 inch sub this week and waiting for them to get here . About the first of next week I'm told , so if my assumptions are correct about the Signature Series it should be the most bad ass sounds I've ever had in my life .

Cheapaudioman, I posted about the Fluances earlier. As an update to my comments .... I have these currently paired and playing with a pair of Elac Debut Reference 6.2s via a IOTA SA3 Integrated Amp (connected to the Fluances) and a Emotiva A-300 Amp (connected to the Elacs. Man, they play so wonderfully together - sounds like a monster tower speakers. And I have a pair of Elac Debut 6.2s playing in Parallel with another recent acquisition - a pair of Sony CSS5s on the B connection to my Denon DRA-800H Receiver. Both playing in my Basement studio which I created during the COVID Hibernation. Thank God for Music.... When this configuration plays simultaneously (playing terrific Rare Earth Greatest Hits CD right now, sounds like a Concert Hall at 55 volume settings.. Great to play my Drums to. I picked those up after a 50 YEAR Hiatus. I'm 69 YO, and retired in 2020 due to continued disabilities from Spinal / Arthritic conditions - that affects how frequently I can play drums. Take Care All.

Subscribed! I just purchased the Klipsch r-51, Fluance Signature and Sony Core Series 5s. Originally, I purchased the Klipsch's and was a bit concerned about the bright sound and importance of placement. After watching your comparison, I decided to try all 3. You seemed to like the Sony's and they were available for $75 with free returns. But then, you pointed out that the acoustic guitars and vocals sounded best on the Fluance and generally, you spoke highly of the Fluance speaker. That comment about the acoustic guitars really stood out to me. I have a Pro-Ject Debut III RecordMaster turntable and a Sony 2.0 receiver in my office, so I'm very interested in the comparison test. I think I'll play Hozier's self titled album, Coltrane's Blue Train Album and maybe a NY hip hop album for the vinyl test. For Bluetooth, I'll try Alison Krauss + Union Station Live and DMB + Tim Reynolds Live at Radio City. I have a feeling the Fluance Signatures will win the day, thanks largely to your reviews. Great stuff man. Keep it coming!

Really appreciate it. The Fluance are a bit rolled off on the top end and on the warm side of neutral but that sounds right up your alley. Fluance also has another bookshelf that I believe is on sale right now as well. I have no experience with it but Andrew Robinson spoke very highly of it.

Cheapaudioman, i purchased a pair earlier in 2020 and paired them as a second B speakers to my basement stereo setup. The A speakers , Elac Debut 6.2s connected to a Denon DRA-800H Receiver. As you say..... pleasing , full sound, well balanced. And I pride myself as being a "educated consumer" as Sy Syms used to say years ago, with all purchases I contemplate. But this acquistion was more of an impulse . I originally ordered Sonys CS , Polks, and returned both after getting these and also combined them with the Elac Debut 6.2s. Your review of the Flus is spot on. As an update: I later purchased a pair of Elac Debut Reference 6.2s to be " married with the other pair of Elac Debut 6.2s". Probably use the Flus as an add on 2nd speaker pair to my LR setup. The LR setup is a vintage one: NAD 1300 Preamp, NAD 2600 Amp, Dual CS5000 TT, and most importantly connect to a pair of KEF 104/ 2 mid tower speakers , all from 1987.

A quick review update to my comparative comments. Playing the Flus against the Elac Debut 6.2s , the Flus are excellent , a little less clarity and a little more bassy. Against the Elac Debut Reference speakers, the Elacs win for overall excellence, But for the money at the price point a d higher too, the Flus are excellent speakers sure to satisfy many , if not all listeners. Keep The Faith all...... in these overall sad times socially a d politically.

I just received my pair of these and they seem pretty great. This video is consistent with my first experience this evening--best speakers under 200. In your video, you say that if we have any questions, to put them in the comments. Also, because you are the "cheap audio man", my question is one you should be able to answer. What's a pair of speakers that can go very loud and get great bass, without a separate subwoofer, for a true stereo setup? I'm not trying to do home theater. No surround. I'm trying to listen to rock and older records and CDs from the 80s and 90s. I want to go loud and I want bass to rattle the walls. Vintage stereo speakers with 12" or similar woofers could do this. What's a contemporary product to do this?

Polk S20's would be a good option. Retail for $280 I think. I've got a pair if you're really interested that I'd sell. You can email me if you're interested. They're big and speced down to 39hz and definitely get that low. Another affordable option would be to look at the Polk Rti A3's. They don't go as deep as the S20's. They'll also play pretty darn loud.

Hi Randy, I just watched your video review on both this speaker set and the Fluance XL8S and I don't know what to think anymore because you say the XL8S is so so with bass and you say this Signature set is awesome with bass. The thing is, I wonder how come the signature serie starting at 60Hz with a 5" driver delivers better bass than the XL8S with a 5.25" starting at 50Hz. Did you compare them and is one so much better than the other in this regard ? (may be the enclosure quality or different crossover frequency ? (3100Hz vs 2300Hz on the XL8S ?)) I didn't find any comparison of these 2 sets either from you or Andrew Robinson's video found on the Fluance website for XL8S and here later. Any insight on that ? That would really help... Thank you.

Randy, I would like to post this question: Why does Fluance advertise these as excellent Surround Sound Speakers? I have a Pair as I noted previously. I just hooked up this pair in parallel with a pair of Elac Debut Reference 6.2s. I have them stacked on top of each other, and produce a fantastic sound in unison - like a Mid Tower setup. I am tempted to order another pair to Parallel with another Pair of Elacs Debut 6.2s (non Reference) in another part of the room (a Basement studio setup during COVID ). The Denon DRA-800H Receiver is or seems to handle this setup pretty easily (rated at 175 Watts per channel). As I contemplate this new addition of Flus, I have paralleled 2 old Realistic Stereo Speakers that were sitting around to "test" this music production. Even with the old Realistic speakers piggy backed with the Debut 6.2s , I'm liking it. I think the Flus will be more dynamic for sure. The Flus are out of stock until Feb 15 2021 on Amazon right now... I'll wait . THX for your usual , simple, to the point , honest assessments of the audio equipment you review.... Be Safe and Well All.

R2andy, do you think they neutral enough to pair with an NAD316BEEV2 and a Fluance RT 85? My main system is an NAD c350 and Infinity composition Overture 2s and a sansui 2050 turntable with a grado cartridge. i have 700 pieces of vinyl.

I’ve reviewed the Edifiers R1700BTS. I would recommend that speaker. It’s the same as the R1700BT but also has a subwoofer connection. That speaker sounds much better with a subwoofer added.

How difficult is this speaker to drive from an amplifier perspective? Are they fussy about placement, toe in, etc... ? Thank you
@cheapaudioman
@cheapaudioman 3 жыл бұрын
At 85db they are definitely harder to drive than the others and these speakers are warm. If that is your listening preference these are great speakers. If you like something a little more traditional then the Sony would probably be a better option. These have a good off axis performance so toe in isn't really much of an issues although facing them directly towards you will help with improving the treble response. Front porting makes them able to be placed directly against the wall and they have a key hole hanger on the back to mount against the wall.

What if you match these up with the Sony's with they compliment each other?
@cheapaudioman
@cheapaudioman 3 жыл бұрын
If you want to very different sound signatures, yes, these would be a very good compliment to each other. Sony's exciting and very active on the top end but can have good bass depending on placement. This is a much more "relaxed" speaker compared to the Sony and has less sparkle on top.

What’s up man? New subscriber. I just bought these to pair with the Fluance turntable. How would i add a subwoofer to my set up? I have a sony 5 channel receiver. I apologize, fairly new to all this. Thanks for anyone that can respond. Stay blessed.

If you've got a 5 channel sub there should be a or a pair of coax output on the back and you just run a cable from that to your subwoofers "LFE" input.

How would you compare these to the Sony Sscs5's ?
@cheapaudioman
@cheapaudioman 3 жыл бұрын
Very different speakers. The Sony's have a lot more on the top end and are more balanced at lower volumes. These are quite a bit warmer and can more of an acquired taste but are excellent in their own right. For most people the sony's will be the better choice. I would recommend the Fluances for people that like to listen at louder volumes as these really don't become balanced until a bit more power is put through them.

@@bstrouble no problem on the question. A subwoofer plays the lower frequencies that a bookshelf or even tower speakers can’t play do to driver and cabinet design limitations.
