Well done....you know what Im talking about lol. The one Im using going from my server to my NAS transfers large map files with ease, loads quicker than a standard 1GB link. Picked up for about £23 so an absolute bargain, it does what it says on the tin. Thanks for the review, Mike and Kath 🙂

thanks again bob and yes managed to safely navigate the review 😂 also spoken to our good friends at QNAP and have a 8 port 2.5gbe switch coming shortly so will revisit this card soon and get some real world numbers to check out

would like to let you guys know that a Asus Rog Strix B550-F Ethernet port sucks i would average speed of 800 mbs with dips here and there. With the Chipset card I am now averaging 1300 MBs with 6 ping so definitely helped me in my situation

These are ideal for cheap Mo Boards or older ones, high end boards don't really need or gain any advantage as you said Mike but they are useful in some instances

Thank you - not sure about what "switches" are though and need to bruch up on network, ethernet malarky- I have a virgin box with a TP-link wi-fi 6 router connected and cable running from that to a powerline adaptor plug which is only 600 Mbps - I mainly use the wifi though - but my wife and grandson uses the powerline - so I may look into a faster powerline adaptor first.

Might want to turn off the onboard Ethernet in BIOS... not essential to, but I do like to disable unused devices - something that used to be VERY necessary in the bad old days of ISA/PCI IRQ allocations

Not at all really they are technically very different ways of connection and don't interact with each other directly

Easy and monetary friendly upgrade for certain. I can see why 2.5gb would make such a difference but would this network created still connect to a router which only has 1Gb ports? I know the internet is limited by the ISP contract but does this mean you have two networks...one for web access and one for data streamed between NASs and PCs? Thanks for sharing Mike and Kath👍

This NICGIGA did not work for me. The card constantly disappears. When it does appear, it is slower than the onboard 1g ethernet. Status says it is 2.5g. LAN file transfers getting 45 to 95mbs ONLY with asus 2.5g router, qnap 2.5 switch , 2.5 qnap nas, cat6e cables , realtek driver installed.

Hmm that is odd not had any issues with mine, try the drivers from the website or the included disk maybe

unless you have a 2.5gb switch and the device on the other end is 2.5gb also there isn't much point, and depending on the type of files your are copying or moving the speeds will be different

yes it is included on a growing number of new motherboards these days, although for a lot of people a pcie card or usb is a lot less traumatic than a motherboard swap
