I have to thank you for posting this. I’ve had my 88 GTA since 1996. I would only drive it on surface streets because it felt like the brakes barely held. I bought the 19 lb. spring suggested on Amazon ($5 for 5 of them). It took maybe 20 minutes to switch and bleed the brakes. What a tremendous difference. Thank you again for posting this video.

Will this be enough to swap in a 4th gen rear end with disc brakes into my 3rd gen? Or do I have to buy a whole brand new valve?

Feel like this may be a dufus question, but your car rear drum, or disc? I am about to swap a G92 code rear end, but did get entire master cylinder/prop. valve assy. from same car to keep it matched since car was drum rear, so not sure this needs doing...

Yes, the drums in the rear are still being fed by the master cylinder. It's not going to be as good as disc brakes but it will improve it.

Before I convert to rear disk brakes on my 92 Camaro, is it possible to run this set up with drum brakes and will it make a difference? Just curious, regardless I'm going to try it out just wanted to get feedback...

You can, when most people do the conversion they swap out the whole prop valve

Planning on swapping my drums for disc, my guess is 22lb?
@R8V8Vantage5996 жыл бұрын
Allen Powell I'm searching for the answer to this exact situation. If anyone has any thoughts it would be much appreciated.
@allenpowell17026 жыл бұрын
R8V8Vantage599 I'm currently looking into putting in an adjustable proportioning valve in. That's going to allow me to run whatever the hell brakes I want. As well as fine tune. I don't know if that spring will be adequate for my breaking situation. I put 4th gen rear axle in my 3rd gen car.
@R8V8Vantage5996 жыл бұрын
Sounds like you opted for a different setup but if anyone else wants to know in the future I installed a 4th gen disc rear on my 3rd gen that came with drums. Just installed the 22lb spring works as described for cars that were originally disc rear. It now wants to lock the rears first.
@allenpowell17026 жыл бұрын
I did the rear end swap from a 97 into my 91. Ok so the proportioning valve looks like a good idea if you have the cast iron prop valve. But the aluminum one on my 91 is metric. I need to get a flaring tool to convert the lines on the car. Looks like a pain so I just got the 22lb springs, it figures they might be too much. Haven't drove it much because the parking brake cable that were on the axle didn't fit.
@torres4276 жыл бұрын
Cool. I like your video. What kind of exhaust headers are those? I have Hooker headers for a ‘92 Camaro TPI. Do you have a video on installation tips? I’m having a hard time cramming them in. Thanks

I bought it with the exhaust already installed but I heard it is a huge pain to get them squeezed in

you need to understand that cars need to be biased to have the front brakes do the majority of the work otherwise the rear brakes will spin you around and you will loose control regularly and crash.

@trillrifaxegrindor44116 жыл бұрын
no,not wrong...why do you think 90% of old muscle cars had front disk rear drum?>
@charleshenson41836 жыл бұрын
@@trillrifaxegrindor4411 Well explain why we got smart & nolonger do that. 4 wheel disc are standard on almost everything now.
@kyle5466s5 жыл бұрын
Charles henson yes 4 wheel disc brakes are standard, but there is still a bias towards the front, typically a much larger multi piston caliper on the front and a single piston caliper on the rear, this is because when you hit the brakes it preloads the front suspension and provides roughly 70% or more of the traction, we did not “get smart” in recur the times and somehow change the laws of physics, unless your car ride height it zero, which is impossible, then you are always going to put a moment on the vehicle when you apply the brakes, and a biased front brake is needed to provide even braking for the given traction.

I tried this with the 19lb spring you recommended and my back brakes still locked up. Keep the stock spring that the engineers designed for the car and just upgrade your brakes.
@joshschoenly27774 жыл бұрын
"Still locked up"? If they were locking up before this mod, a heavier spring certainly wont fix that problem.. Dont give humans advice unless you actually know what you are talking about. Anyone else who's rears are locking up, get that fixed first THEN test a 19/24lbs. 👳♂️
