That's fantastic that you're considering staying for a whole month! In my experience, early January has often had excellent powder snow conditions in the past couple of seasons. This might be worth considering if you're looking to avoid higher hotel prices in February. However, it does depend on whether you plan to move around Hokkaido and change locations. Another option to save money on accommodation for your snowboarding adventure could be renting a monthly apartment. The sound of the bell alerts bears to the presence of humans, giving them a chance to move away and avoid surprise encounters. It's a simple but effective way to help prevent bear encounters in wilderness areas. I use a regular small bell attached to my pants while being in Hokkaido.
