Dude! Love your videos. Your your “if you don’t like it, get the hell outta here” comments crack me up! I have this same kayak and I do love it, but yes, you’re spot on with its lack of tracking ability. Just trying to pull up to a boat ramp is difficult sometimes because it won’t track. The tracking issue you mentioned can be plus imo. A better tracking boat wont start turning as quickly from a dead stand as the salty will it? I really like the maneuverability for fishing structure like bridges and docks. One of my dislikes is the way the seat strap is kinda in the way of the rudder knob for me on really tight turns. Overall tho absolutely love this kayak and still don't know of a pedal kayak I'd rather have. Maybe a Hobie outback possibly but I don't like how fragile the hobie drive is.

Can you elaborate on the comment about it being better for offshore? Just that its faster and can eat a wave better? Or...?
@TridentDriver4 жыл бұрын
@@brando2950 One thing is the fact it has a lot of rocker so it will ride over chop a lot better than a straight keel line topwater. Also little lighter and only small hatch. Hard to get water inside the boat if you flip.

I have fished on a Top Water and a Hobie which I found was not for me and over priced for my budget. I loved the Top Water but I want to get a Salty because of its price and it's speed. I worry about stability though being a woman weighing 120 pounds. Also I primarily like lake fishing compared to ocean. Will this Salty be a good investment for me in your opinion? Love your videos btw☺

@@AliexFolgueira it was hard decision between those 2 but I choose the stability over speed. ( thanks to your other video) . I have ocean kayak prowler 13 already, and salty looks almost identical and got same splash noise on choppy day. So sportsman 120 is my choice( little delays on shipping though). I own both a Salty pdl 120 & a Topwater/sportsman pdl 120 I am 6’ and weigh 325 pounds with a broad shoulder width. Side by side is this... The salty is fast...cuts through the water like no other. Turns quick and is responsive. Very efficient hull design below the waterline. With that said it is also very easily moved in crosswinds. A bit tipsy compared to the topwater. When sitting still it tends to drift and spin perpendicular to the wind like most kayaks. Using the rudder is a must for tracking. Very fun if you’re using it for recreation and fishing in choppy water. Super fun on rivers with current or open water with chop! The topwater is super stable...worlds more than others. So stable its like glue on the water. Wind doesn’t push it around near as much. The flip-side is its much slower and much more energy used in pedaling/paddling. When you stop on the water and fish with no current or wind it stays put. Hardly use my power pole at all. The topwater/sportsman is no slouch when it comes to rouge waves. You will stay drier more than the salty. However you will given a false sense of security in wakes from passing boats. So much so that there is little secondary stability. If you are less than 5’6” you will have issues reaching the pedal drive in the topwater 120 with the seat all the way up. The topwater/sportsman is truly a fishing kayak. If using for recreational purposes it will be a bit of a struggle to keep up with those kayaks that are slipstreamed. On calm rivers, marsh, stable waters its at home...open water is good but its slow and tiresome. Especially good around underwater obstacles. If in any kind of moderate chop it will bob around.

Hello @yoimalex ! Your comment helps me a lot ! I was asking myself to get a SPORTSMAN SALTY OLD TOWN, is this the same than yours Salty PDL 120 ? I'm 6' too and weight 20kgs less than you, and i was wondering about stability to fish standing up. Is this possible easily on calm water and choppy water ? Thx !
@yoimalex3 жыл бұрын
@@Franz_Nandebaio yes the salty pdl 120 is the same. Standing up is a challenge at first but once you get used to it the motions will come easier as you build confidence. However the salty is a bit more unstable the higher the center of gravity gets...but it certainly can be done. I stand in my Salty with minimal issues....but like before its all about confidence as well as balance. What helps a lot is to raise the back of the seat up a bit to assist...this also helps to combat fatigue in pedaling over long distances.
