Honda Fans not working?
DO this easy check First!
If your Honda Fans aren't working it can be easy repair.
I found that both the radiator fan and the AC fan weren't working.
On a 2002 Honda CRV or most Honda's including Civic and Accord, there's an easy check that can be done to see if you need to repair
or replace the fans, relays, temperature switch or even the fuses.
The temperature switch is an easy repair and it's even easier to replace. You can get the part from Amazon.com for cheap!

My man that was spot on. It worked on my 99 civic. Thanks loads! I had put in a new thermostat, it kept overheating after that, then I noticed the fan wasn't running, did the paperclip and I'm back in the game. Ordering that switch today.

So my fans came on with the clip and I replaced the switch. So do the fans come on (both) when the A/C is running after the switch is replaced? Mine didn’t!!! I tried to let it heat up but it was getting hotter than normal and fans didn’t come on!!! This is the one at the bottom of the radiator that was replaced. Do I have a 2nd switch on the motor? 2004 Honda CR-V?

This was my problem I would have never thought of! Car overheated on the highway, water boiling, no fans on. Ac fan worked fine, but it was intermittent. Did what you did, and by god both fans came roaring to life! Even works for my 04 civic. And now I'm happy again, and I have "I like peanut butter" stuck in my head 😂 Basically what I'm trying to say is thank you.

Thanks for taking the time and keeping it simple man. Honestly I love The regular Guy explanations. I don't want to hear unnecessary, technical details. Please, just show me what I need to do to figure out where the problem lies, name the part that should be tested (And possibly replaced) and if there's any other helpful, yet basic tips. And, that is exactly what you done. Thanks again man. Keep up the Great work.

this helped a lot. Thank you! Watched several videos (a few of yours too) Was quoted almost $800 to fix my a/c and Fan issue... I swapped my cooling fan motor myself in about 1 hour, paid $71.00 for that and also swapped a relay switch ($15), and the PCV valve ($24 - I could have got it cheaper but didn't feel good about the part quality).... All in all, I saved a ton of money and my issue is fixed.... (posting the same Thank you message on several vids...)

You know what, i am the same and it usually comes down to checking the simple things first, i notice a mechanic will run every test under the sun, try and sell you on other parts to replace and only go "by the book" that ends up costing you sometimes more then if you went out and bought another car. Thank you so much and you are now my favorite channel.

I couldn't find a video to address anything I had an idea about. Always the same stuff. When I came across this video yesterday, it was clear and understandably easy to understand. @@CommonGuy Hi man,I am not a professional mechanic by any means, but I did some research and this is to you or to anyone reading this, yes, there are apparently 2 temperature sensors on some honda cars (mine is a 06 civic) one at the bottom of the radiator which is connected to your temperature gage that you see inside the car, the other sensor is on the motor and it is what makes the fans turn on after reaching a specified temperature.

This video saved me! I was driving around couple days ago with the A/C on and when I was at idle, I noticed the temp gauge was climbing higher than usual and it started freaking me out. I thought it was from driving with the A/C on for about an hour. Fast forward a couple days later and without the A/C on at idle, it was climbing again until I started driving around (the temp gauge instantly dropped as soon as I started moving). Yesterday, I tested the relays, fuses and the fans and they were all good. I have the part and can't wait to replace it. Unfortunately, I am pushing it by driving with my fans constantly running with that paper clip trick but I do most of my driving on the highway and it's only about a total of 45 minutes combined to and from work. My apartment complex forbids us from working on cars so I'm gonna have to drive it to a lot somewhere after work, wait for the engine to cool to replace the part and bleed the system.
@CheapGeek
@CheapGeek 3 жыл бұрын
The paper clip is a useful work around. We did that for a day or two until I could get the part and make the video. 😉👍

@guesswhomartin9249 3 жыл бұрын
Wow .. you live a dangerous life if you're driving around like that. If the niddle is climbing, that means the relays and fuses are good. First things I would check is do you even have antifreeze. If you have antifreeze, it's a very strong possibility your thermostat is going out. We know it can't be the the relays and fuses cause parts are moving. If you have antifreeze and the thermostat is good, could be your fan switch is going out. But right now I'm gonna lean in the thermostat. Keep in mind; there's a difference between the engine coolant temperature sensor, and the fan cooling temperature sensor. And they both play a different role. Hope this helps you. Have a great day. Oh by the way; no I'm not a mechanic, I work on my own car. I have learned a few things along the way.

Just curious, did you find the problem ? Were you able to fix the problem ?
@The513Warning
@The513Warning 3 жыл бұрын
@@guesswhomartin9249 Figured it out a couple months ago. My thermostat failed closed and the fan switch did indeed fail right along side it. The pressure ended up rupturing a coolant bypass hose that goes to the throttle body. Replaced all that stuff, and during that process, I found out my head gasket is leaking. Tried to replace it twice now but ran into a seriously seized nut on the exhaust manifold. It didn't react to heat, penetrating oil, vise grips or bolt extractors so I'm gonna cold chisel it off or hit it with a cut off wheel. Exhaust gases are getting inside the cooling system, so every couple days, I have to top off the radiator and purge it of trapped gases. I'll probably get around to it next weekend.

After you have burped the system, jumped the relay to confirm Fans work, replaced the Thermostat & radiator/thermostat temp sensors & STILL nothing works, check the temperature of the radiator. It should be uniform all over. If not the radiator could be plugged near the lower temp sensor causing a misreading. Flush and/or replace radiator. If that still does not work, replace the Fan Timer unit...... thats what fixed my issue.

Thanks a lot have to check fans tomorrow. Great video hope I can find and get switch out if switching relays indicates a relay. Its funny I watched another video where some guy in Florida said I found this connector with a wire in it connected to nothing.

*CHECK THE FAN ITSELF* *Car 1999 Honda Accord 3.0L v6* This video saved my ass about 2 years ago, the paperclip trick worked, and I drove around like that for about 2 weeks. I was super broke, and didn't have the money for a new temperature sensor/switch. Today I came back again looking for a solution, thinking that the temperature sensor/switch had gone bad... I did the paperclip trick, tested the relays, and pulled out the fuses to see if they were blown, however; they were not blown. It turns out that the *fan itself* failed. I smacked the fan motor (the back of the fan), and the fan started to spin very slow. The fan giving out in traffic on a hot summer like today, nearly blew my engine! The A/C started to blow hot air instead of cold, I could smell burning plastic, and I noticed that the temperature gauge was almost to the TOP! I'm hoping it didn't crack a cylinder head, or blow a head gasket :\.... Thankfully once I got moving again the condenser fan was able to cool the radiator a bit, to bring down the temps. LUCKILY I was 2 mins away from home when this happened. I'm buying a new car very soon, I was fortunate enough to land a good job, so I'm saving up for it.... Sorry for the long comment, but I know it will help at least ONE PERSON lol. Good luck to everyone having this issue, remember to smack the fan and see if it turns lol. For all you know it could be the original fan from the 90's!

After replacement of a bad blower motor less than a year ago, mine started acting up. I looked at the wires and noticed that they go from the right side (94 Accord LX) and go directly to the motor. So I was baffled by the intermediate on and off. I checked the fuse under the hood. It was fine. I replaced my ignition switch thinking that was the problem. Nope! Just now I went to the passenger side and turned the ignition switch to position 2 and wiggled the power plug at the motor. Problem solved! In short I would start there. You'll save money and time and a grip of sleepless nights trying to figure out what happened. Stay cool! 😎

Another thing to do is when you select the air conditioning pull the plug loose at the motor and see if you have 12 or 14 volts present. If you don't then you know it's an issue other than the fan. A lot of people want to start replacing fans when it's not even getting power.

Thanks for sharing your knowledge, My ac blows cold for about 15 minutes driving and then all of a sudden the air will blow normal air temperature like outside. My ac fan goes on when ac is activated but not my engine fan. When the ac is on are both fans supposed to be running?
@CheapGeek
@CheapGeek Жыл бұрын
The engine fan is supposed to run when the engine temperature requires it. So it doesn’t run all the time. The AC fan seems to run when the AC is on. It runs regardless of the engine fan. 👍

Alright so cars been overheating and I have coolant that obviously splashed all over the engine bay however haven’t lost too much. (Can’t tell where it’s coming from, I suspect radiator but no obvious cracks) I’ve checked hoses, topped coolant off let engine get to temp with heat blasting, car got to temp and never did my cooling fan cone on which led me to look into it as well. I did the paper clip, ac fan worked (always did) , radiator/cooling fan did not. I swapped relays a fan still worked (it’s not relay) didn’t fully pull the 20amp fuse but it appear to be good. Question is what could it be next? Assuming it’s the fan itself but you mention potentially the ignition wiring? What test can I run next.

The video also talks about the coolant temp. switch. That’s where I’d go next.

Hi. Thanks for the video, but I encountered a problem. Both my radiator/ac fans aren’t working. When I unplugged the cooling fan temperature switch and placed a pin on the cap linking the contacts, both fans began to work; however when I replaced my switch from Canadian Tires and plugged the cap back in, the fans don’t work! Any help?

So I’ve tried what you said. I’ve also switched the relays. The cooling fan doesn’t work. The ac fan turns on. Can it just be a blown motor on the fan? My car was also warmed up

Jose Gonzalez yes my fan motor was blown. I did all the test and one fan kicked on when I put a paper clip into trick sensor that turns on the fans. So I juts slapped in a new fan now it doesn’t over heat.
