Just to back you up on this, "cheated" is more than just a colloquial term - it actually appears several times in the ISU technical panel handbook! It's not just casual skating lingo; it's officially used in ISU documents to describe underrotations and pre-rotations. "The quarter/half mark of landing are the border lines to identify cheated jumps." "The toe loop is the most commonly cheated on take-off jump..." (From pages 19-20 of the most recent ISU Tech Panel Handbook.)

@@EricStinehart No prob! It was so frustrating to see people ascribing malice to you using normal descriptive words in skating. It's literally in the ISU handbook, people. Please chill.

I feel like for figure skating fans "cheated" is more about prerotations and problems with toe pick technique. Some people use it for skaters with edge problems but without calls in protocols.
@EricStinehart2 жыл бұрын
Unless it has changed in the last few years (which I don’t think it has), in the skaters/coaching world up until now it has mostly ONLY meant under-rotating a jump at the end - so not pre rotation, or edge calls etc.
@alexnik71102 жыл бұрын
@@EricStinehart Thank you for clarifying it. A lot of fans in figure skating community would consider under rotated jump as "cheated" only if skater did not get a call. And fans could be very toxic sometimes. Hope this video help you to avoid misunderstanding.
@емілі-п1в2 жыл бұрын
@@EricStinehart Exactly. That’s a completely different call, and unfortunately pre-rotation and edge problems are often overlooked…the ISU rules need to be consistent and incorporate deductions for significant (even egregious) pre-rotation and edge calls. It’s just that those are not a “cheated landing.”

Thanks for this. I just watched an FS video where people got angry at the term cheating. Edit: I think we watched the same video. Hahaha

And many who believe they're doing quads are actually hella pre rotating which is also called cheating
@EricStinehart2 жыл бұрын
Technically in the rules right now it’s not exactly. But especially in some cases definitely seems like there should be points taken off analogous to cheating.
@емілі-п1в2 жыл бұрын
Agreed, but significant pre-rotation, or complete blade assist, aren’t always called…extremely absurd…the ISU needs to get its shit together to call these as deductions, but in common figure skating nomenclature, “cheated” refers to an under-rotated landing, whether the skater hides and holds onto the landing or falls because the jump is under-rotated.
@емілі-п1в2 жыл бұрын
I guess imho those pre-rotation issues in quads (especially over the 3/4 mark) should be downgraded to a triple.

Aww.. I like the way you explain things. Really appreciate your videos. Keep it up! :) Don't let any harsh comments get to you. I for one, really enjoy your takes.

Thanks so much for this video! Too many fans don’t understand this term at all….and I believe it be came more confusing in Ladies Figure Skating because of Valieva’s doping scandal in the 2022 Olympics. It’s a great video to help friends and family of skaters have a better understanding of “cheating “ meaning an under-rotated jump.

The fact that under rotations get called, I wouldnt refer to UR as a cheated jump. The 1.5 turn pre-rotation is the issue with the blade assist.
@емілі-п1в2 жыл бұрын
It definitely is, and needs to incur specific deductions…especially since the ISU can’t get their sh*t together about specific calls/deductions for egregious pre-rotation that qualifies as over the 1/2 mark, and worse a 3/4 mark, which is almost a full blade assist. In my opinion, those type of jumps should be down-graded to triples. It’s just not what’s usually considered a “cheat.” As far as I’m concerned (as a former competitive figure skater) is an under-rotated jump. Just a common term for that particular error, whether you can hang onto it or fall.

quick q what does "q" mean in figure skating?
@EricStinehart2 жыл бұрын
Q = landing right at the quarter; it’s a relatively new term. So it’s not quite under rotated, doesn’t receive deduction in base value, judges might give it slightly less GOE.
