Oh nice I didn’t know coins could reset speed. I was thinking it had something to do with him having low speed to begin with (he had low coins and a low speed combo) so he lost drifting speed faster.

Correct! It even took me a while to figure it out when rewatching. Most non-mushroom speed boosts actually slow you down instantly when you touch offroad, such as mini-turbos, trick boosts, draft boosts, and even the tiny coin boost!

can you do a "color combo" challenge? basically you can only use a combo that's for example fully green, so something like green yoshi, yoshi bike, leaf wheels, paper glider. or a full yellow combo, like wiggler, sports coupe, sponge wheels, waddle wing. also characters, karts and gliders that can be colored (yoshi, birdo, shy guy ect. and pipe frame, standard kart/glider/bike ect) are OFF LIMITS unless ABSOLUTELY necessary.

I’m so happy there’s a site that lists what type of track is what (like which is a runner and which is a bagger etc). And it also kind of educated me on like what a drafter and a shroomer is lol Like for instance, Peach Gardens out of all tracks is considered a bagger. When I think of bagging tracks, I think of tracks like Cheese Land or Riverside Park, tracks with a lot of critical shortcuts. I actually thought Peach Gardens was a shroomer or a frontrunner since there’s only one huge grass shortcut so I was surprised to see it as a bagger. If the Wii version of Peach Gardens came to 8 Deluxe, it would’ve for sure been a huge bagger, since there are so much more grass and flower cuts in that version, but now I know lol. Thank you Shortcat and Gyrodos for the pro guide!

Yeah Peach Gardens is an example where I can see why it's a bagger, but I didn't think about it that way naturally since most of the track is shortcutless. It actually would be less of a bagger if it was the MKWii version though, since the 2 main reasons it is a bagger right now are that it is extremely long, and there is a big shortcut right at the end. Without the reversed lap 3, bagging would be weaker

Ohhh I see. But yea, that makes sense in a way. I guess if a track is really long and has like one big shortcut, especially if it’s like near the end, I can see why bagging would work effectively. Another example of this can be DK Mountain, it’s a long track and there are some key shortcuts, as a result, the item sets can become broken, which is why that track can be a bagger. But I guess what I was a bit confused on was why DK Mountain is considered as a drafter & bagger (two different track types) but Peach Gardens is a pure bagger 🤔

@@arya_moghadam That's because none of DK Mountain's important shortcuts require a speed item, so there is no advantage to bagging for items for that purpose. DK Mountain's bagging advantage is more about broken item sets and how long the track is, which means the blue shell and shock are more likely to appear multiple times. You can also run DK Mountain, and ultimately which strategy works better comes down to the shock and blue shell. If nobody is bagging, you can probably just run too because shocks and blue shells become less likely to appear

Honestly though, having your character hold out their next item queued was a really good design choice You don't think about it at a low level but at a higher level (which I'm not I just like to observe high-level chaos) you can use that info to plan out what you do with your stuff

Appreciate the Mariokart content, especially after playing the other day where my item luck was atrocious. 3 times shocked after the last item set, 2 times starred before the finish line, a piranha plant in dry dry desert's last item set to go from top 3 to bottom 3, too many shells to count, and many more consistent item shenanigans that got me bottom 4 consistently. So infuriating, I may or may not have punched the couch more than once. But at least I avoided back spam on the finish line.

Another big cubing channel has basically confirmed it, saying J perm has moved on (in response to how cubing content has changed), and showing a Mario kart clip then
