Silicone lubricant was applied to rubber seal after cleaning it and so far no issues.

I used two different products WD-40: a regular WD-40 to clean the gas cap, and then WD-40 Silicone to lubricate the seal again so it makes a good air-tight seal.

@FlyBeee Knock on wood. My gas cap light has not came back on. All I did was unhook battery then later hook back up.
