Yes Yes Yes ! Do this first. I cleaned the 1/4 of black crud off the filler pipe. Got the replacement gas cap and put it on. Tight. No more check engine light indicator. I probably saved myself $500 in parts that might not have worked anyway. Thanks.

I’ve purchased three or four different gas cabs and I continue to get the gas cap leak icon. I’ve also replaced a couple of other small parts that have to do with the eve app system and I’m still getting the gas cap. I wonder if the actual metal is damaged somehow so no matter what the seal will never stop the vapor leak

Thing is a 442 code can be vacuum hose, purge valves, overflow check valve.

I have smoke in myself but I don't think it's a gas cap I think it's the gas nozzle that the gas cap goes on to I even has a little paint to it but has trips up gasoline will eat up the paint is there any way to seal it better

I got those codes on my 07 dodge charger 3.5L. That's the first thing I replaces, the gas cap and cleaned the filler neck real good, still got the code. Well I am now at the point where I have replaced every evap part and STILL have the code. I am beginning to worry the problem is going to be that vent tube on the top of the tank (actually a known issue). If it is that I'm selling the car. You know how expensive that is going to be to fix?....lol
