yeah it seems like they were trying to let players skip the tedious menu clicking routines on obviously easy mobs while preserving the brain challenge of strategy games on harder bsses which is interesting i guess but its still a strategy game at its core

It's really funny hearing Mortismal, a person who has built their brand on 100%-ing RPG games and especially CRPG games that are often very long, doesn't want to commit to this Persona-like due to the time commit it would require. It just shows how insane some genres and types of games are nowadays when it comes to the amount of stuff they have.

Every single thing that pops up on the screen has so much flavor, as a big fan of SMT and Persona i expected this spin-off to be a throwaway but to my surprise the anime cut scenes the voice acting THE MUSIC and gameplay is simply amazing. The prologue is arguably the best the two series have yet had. Let me know if anyone disagrees!

I would like Atlus to experiment more with gameplay in new ip’s and move away from their «safe winning» formula more often. And how other bloggers defend this game, saying that it is something different, but I see before me all the same things that I saw in their main franchises, just in a new cover. I would like to be wrong. I played Atlus games over 1000 hours and I want more changes.

The anime cutscenes aren't amazing, if anything they are a step down from p5. They are starting to use CGI for some reason and it doesn't look good when they use it. Also despite the graphical style being on point, the graphics themselves are comparable to p5. Which is not a good thing considering that's a ps3 game. Also Also, it's very derivative of persona and other atlus games (SMT). Still, it was pretty fun and it has probably the best prologue of any big game the persona studio has made yet, and it being too much like persona isn't really a bad thing

Honestly I was hardly ever bored playing Persona 5 they refined their formula really well and the progression in Metaphor is an improvement even on that so far with being able to switch around archetypes between all party members and the synergy skill combinations that come with it. Having a new setting and musical style is a big difference too. I have played Atlus games over a 1000 hours as well and I think they have done enough to differentiate Metaphor an moving away from a winning formula for no other reason than moving away would probably just be worse off. At the end of the day when I play an jrpg I want good story, combat, music, and a sense of wonder which Metaphor does everything pretty well so far.

​@@bigzachful P5 originally came out on the ps3 and ps4. A few years later they remade it into p5 royal with extra stuff. This version was developed for the ps4 and since the ps5 is backwards compatible, you can play it on ps5

I always hate demo's because they make me lose interest in the game. Playing it then waiting weeks for the actual game to come out feels pointless for these types of games because the flow is all gone

I only have a few hours a day, on days I even can play, so if this is as long of a demo as they say I'm probably good for the end of the month. Especially since I can't even start until Friday or Saturday due to my work schedule and other responsibilities. And with progress transferring to the main game...this feels less like a demo and more like early access :)

I played the demo and LOVED it, and I am also a big persona 3-4-5 fan as well. This is also my October game as well. I’m normally a western rpg fan, especially crpgs - but with avowed and kingdom come deliverance 2 delayed to next year this shot up to my most anticipated game of 2024. Also, another unrelated/random game I suggest looking out for is Mirthwood, if you like the “life-sim” aspect for RPGs like persona/metaphor/elder scrolls/and Fable. The game really gives me 2D Fable vibes - its got that storybook/fairy tale kind of charm.

Big Atlus fan! Happy to leave the school setting, but was very nervous as well. A formula change can be weird, but being 30, playing a highschooler is also strange. The cool thing is the game is the same formula, but EVERYTHING is improved. There’s so much I’m excited for, but sadly Metaphor must wait until I’m done with Dragon Age 4.

The demo was incredible, it got me wanting to start a fresh playthrough on persons 5 Royal while I wait out the 2 weeks for the full game now. I do wish they'd scrapped the calendar system for this one but, I'm not totally complaining either I guess. I have no doubt it's going to be my new favorite atlus game.

One thing I'd note about the time pressure element, at least with their previous persona games the time constraints are incredibly lenient. To the point in Persona 5 Royal where I was knocking off the dungeons in like 2-3 in game days out of the 30 or so available.

played the demo, proceeded to buy the game right after. Game has such a vibe , just like persona. The fantasy setting is very cool. You dont lose hours of playtime now if you die, it loads moments before. action combat for killing mobs lower level than you is a really nice idea. cool story and characters, yeah good stuff.

I like Atlus game in general so it will be a buy for me. The mixed mode combat is great tough, it has the best of 2 worlds by not having the annoyance of multiple turn battle fight when you are too strong, while still giving you the opportunity to be strategic on harder one.

The demo did a great job in making me excited for the game, well at least the story. I sort of agree with Mort in that I’m not sure this is the game I will want to sink 80+ hours into because I really wasn’t into the “daily task” mechanic when I played persona. The battle system seems very similar to persona as well, where your spells and hitting weaknesses is the name of the game, but then mp is always limiting and the mp regen items are super expensive, thus slowing down the game significantly when trying to balance mp. I really want to get into the game because the story and how they tell that story looks really interesting but idk…

My favorite thing about the pre-turn based combat part of the game is there's still strategy and variety to the overworld fighting. Different enemies react differently and have different hitboxes/attacks, etc. I remember slashing through these butterfly/dog/slime enemies in the cave with ease and then the snake/worm enemy nearby straight up lunged at me and initiated a fight at a massive disadvantage which I ended up losing within two turns lol. Persona games had none of that, this is a very cool layer to JRPG gameplay imo. Also one of the first boss fights in the demo already made good use of the front/back row aspects, which I found in most JRPGs underutilized. Great +5 hour demo and I will gladly buy the game on release, should be one of Atlus' best.
