Hey ol Mike. If u grind the center of that bit down a bit into a bit more of a 2 prong fork it works a lot faster and easier my friend. Helps it grab better. Cheers
@strakill2 ай бұрын
I used a grinder and cut a much deeper V shape in the middle of the chisel bit. Use the grinder and make sure the cut is as blunt as you can make it to mitigate cutting the copper. I do this with my motors and once you get the hang of it you will fly right through these motors. Another tip is to drive the end into the copper and then bring the gun downwards making sure you make contact with the motor body with the chisel. Imagine the copper coming out as straight as possible from the channels rather then forcing it to the center line of the motor.

Just a hint DULL up the spade bit don’t won’t cut the copper and it will grab the soft copper instead. So satisfying!

Mike, I'm glad you finally learnt about this, but when using tools that vibrate, make sure you aren't using them tools for long periods, there is a thing you can get from using vibrating tools, it's called Vibration white finger (VWF), also known as hand-arm vibration syndrome, is a condition that causes adverse effects in the fingers and arms due to regular exposure to vibrating tools.......Please pay attention to this as it's common.....Look it up and look at the pictures of people who have been affected by this.

when using the sawzall, if you press the foot of the saw tight against the material being cut, you will get a lot less vibration and have less chance of blade breaking.

if you put a small v notch in the center of your blade it grabs the coils better. Have you seen scrapitall? he uses a machete to cut the motors in half seems to make it easier to pull the copper out?

Hey Mike, on those longer motors you can chop them in half with an old machete and will be less distance to pull out the copper. Just use a hammer on the end to slice machete through
@ebikescrapper39252 ай бұрын

Mike this mellow fellow is correct. I find it easiest to hammer it thru with my 3lb hammer few good wacks an it's in half... all down hill from there

I use a meat cleaver from the scrapyard and large engineers hammer. A lot easier and no copper lost from sawing or angle grinding the end off. I've swept a lot of copper powder from the bench in the past- have a kilo and a half in a big pickle jar.

Putting a hard plastic dome over half of the tub helps. chatch the flying smell bits, and yet you can still see and hold onto the motor. Those little bits can be a bear to get out when caught under the skin.

We used to burn the stator in a propane fired rig and cut one end of the windings off. We had a special vise that held the stator vertically and an air cylinder above that, that had vise grip pliers on one end that would pull the windings out. Fire breaks down the varnish and insulators. It was still a dirty job even with all the equipment. We are talking 50 - 100 hp motors. Rewound stators are dipped in a huge tank of varnish in the floor and left overnight. They were then drained and baked in an oven. The varnish solidifies the windings so vibration won't break the insulation down. That is why they are hard to get the wires out of without heat to break down the varnish.

Mike, have you heard of using a machete to chop the longer ones in half? You take a machete and use a hammer. It splits the metal and cuts the copper pretty easy. With that, you can knock the copper out from the cut side easier. Even if you cut the copper off of one end. From te end you cut. You use a punch to knock the copper through. It will be even easier with that air hammer. Much love ❤️

I would think if you cut off one end of the field, and use a hydraulic press, you could press the copper field out of the jacket. Easy enough to make from scrap steel welded, and a hydraulic jack 8 ton bottle jack $35 harbor Freight. No air compressor required.

after you cut one end of the copper (the way you did) you can use a screwdriver and hammer to pound on the cut ends straight down to free the rest of the copper
