Great artstyle, fantastic atmosphere, phenomenal voice acting for every single character, engaging exploration (rewards backtracking because there's so much you can miss/discover on repeat visits), promising story. Some things are annoying, like the durability system, but that's mainly a problem very early on. I'm super excited for the addition of coop, which will probably make the punishing combat a bit more forgiving and the grind for resources (to upgrade the town) more fun. I'm 17 hours into it now with a mage character, feel free to ask questions.

@@terminator6431 it definitely felt like fighting souls bosses. Memorizing patterns, punishing openings, blocking out all distractions to just focus on the enemy's movements... (Dying a lot xD) Although difficult, the boss fights never felt unfair and had manageable complexity. I also like their visual and narrative presentation. What I struggle with the most right now are enemy groups and big enemies who can reach extremely far with their attacks. Those feel more frustrating than the actual bosses xD

I think the resource gathering and inventory management are the most punishing mechanics of the game at the moment. Difficulty seems to be on par with Souls games in early levels. But once you get to the city and have access to weapon/armor upgrades the game becomes too easy imo. They either need to tune down the difficulty in early levels so the whole game is more accessible to everyone, or turn up the difficulty significantly after Sacra so that it's consistent for people who want a Souls-like challenge.

There's actually a spell you can buy from the enchanter and insert into a weapon, which lets you repair all items in your inventory fully for 150 focus points. If you're going for a mage or otherwise rune focused build that's a tiny investment, if not it requires a few levels to get to. you can also teleport to town from any cerim whisper and then back. In my experience having played 16 hours, making repair trips is a matter of a few seconds in most cases.

I rarely buy early access, but this game is an exception. Isometric souls-like was a hole in my life that desperately needed filling, and the art style is just plain gorgeous. I'm playing on Steam Deck, where unfortunately the performance issues really show, but hey, ironing out that kind of stuff is what early access is for. I'm very bullish on this one. My main criticism (other than performance) is that the game is a bit too zoomed in. I'd love to use the stealth more, but with the short visual range, it's hard to spot enemies before they spot me.

@@Bloodbornepro. Honestly, it's borderline right now. Performance is fine in some areas, but dips into low 20s in others. And with severe visual compromises (dynamic resolution). Also had a few crashes that forced me to reboot my Deck. Usually I have maybe 1-2 of those every 1-2 weeks of using my Deck, but I've had 3 today from this game alone. When it works and performs well, it's really fun, and I think this will be an amazing game when it's done cooking. I'm happy I bought it because my purchase helps fund the development (the idea of Early Access). But I see it more as a long-term investment for now and I'll probably not put too much time into it before they push out a few patches.

My main gripe with the game so far is healing. I get that having it be a somewhat finite resource is a design choice, but it can be quite a chore to abandon whatever you're doing because you need to go out and look for more food. It's fine if they don't give us recharchable healing items like flasks from Dark Souls/Elden Ring, but I wish that Cerim whispers or campfires regenerated your HP at least.

@kolosmenus

@@superkatten999 Yeah, I've played a bit more, finished the prologue, etc. Now I think healing is honestly good enough, there's plenty of food everywhere. Now I'm more annoyed by the lack of various quality of life features. You can't use crafting resources from your stash, items break pretty quickly (especially if you're dying), I'm not sure I like the whole "gather resources for building projects" thing. And the player housing. There's also daily and weekly quests. Quite a lot of time is spent just running around in general. It's pretty obvious the developers are gearing the game towards multiplayer, and that's fine, but I think it could become an amazing gem if they prioritized the single player experience and then added some multiplayer functions on top of that.

As soon as the swords start clashing the game seems to become an almost incomprehensible blur. I like the game's graphical style, but in a game like this reading the situation is so important. I honestly thought some of the combat footage was a bit hard to watch, it just looks so messy in action. Maybe it'll be better when it's on my own monitor, but it still feels like something that needs to be worked on.

Thanks for making this video, I found it super helpful. Been pretty intrigued by this game, but it's a little bit offputting that a studio of this pedigree would release a (somewhat pricey) EA version before addressing some pretty fundamental issues like keybinding. Of all the features a developer has to... develop, keybinding seems like probably one of the easiest things to include. Most of the other flaws seem like something that can be ironed out during this EA phase besides boosting how telegraphed enemy's attacks are - I mean we're talking probably dozens upon dozens of enemy types and animations that would have to be reworked, and I can think of absolutely zero solutions to enemy wind-ups/telegraphs being occluded by set pieces in the environment as seen in this video. I REALLY hope they listen to players about the pointless tedium of the item durability system instead of forcing it on us the way FROM does with some of its more eccentric design choices, because as awesome as Moon's games are, they are not FROM.

Completed a couple playthroughs now (not hard to do since there's only 2 mandatory bosses). I didn't have that many performance issues and no crashes, however my brother that I bought the game for has not been able to launch the game without it immediately crashing. Issues aside, what's here in the core gameplay is fantastic. So many well made systems that put a twist on things we're familiar with. Heavy armor fat roll? Still useful because you can bash people. White, blue, purple loot colors? Every color has it's use, white being the most customizable, and purple potentially having the best traits but at the cost of a negative one. Ash of War like system where you can remove abilities from a weapon and place it on another. Allowing you to really customize your build how you want it. I can go on but overall it's a really solid game. Likely to be my goty assuming they fix the performance/crash issues in the short term and release another act before the end of the year.

I didn't have any crashes and I use a very low-end PC for nowadays. What I have to do was to limit the FPS to 30 and chose the option exclusive fullscreen for the video. Also, I chose the performance preset. Then, I was able to play the game decently. Regarding to the key mapping, to be able to play well with a mouse and keyboard is necessary to switch to the alternative mode. In this mode the mouse pointer is the guide for the movement and it's a lot easier to use the shift and ctrl keys. I do CGI work, then I used Unity for a time and now I'm using Unreal Engine. I usually had performance problems and crashes using these applications and games. After I changed my Nvidia configuration by disabling the vertical sync and setting up the TdrDelay to 60 in the Regedit, I've never again had any problems using Unreal Engine or with games crashing. A lot of crashes are related to the vertical sync option.

performance is really good for me and no crashes. only thing i'm not a big fan of atm is that there is no way to change keybindings. really, really great game so far (3 hours in)

I think the biggest problems right now are the intentional time wasting parts that slow the game down. Just give the option to craft from chest. The inventory cap is tedious. Fast traveling is kinda tedious. And while I like the RNG loot, it probably needed some RNG mitigation. I chose dex first off and all I've come across is strength stuff.

I'm running an I9 3070 and I've had no crashes and no real problems with fps. It tanks sometimes if I jump around the city but I've played ten hours and never had a problem in combat. The quality/fidelity doesn't make a huge difference like PS5 exclusives e.g. Rebirth looks like absolute crap at 60 fps. This game looks great all the time, so just take it down from high quality and you won't notice much if any difference. This game bangs hard. Not as tough as Elden Ring, but still a challenge, but much easier to cheese bosses with consumables if you're struggling. You can literally kill the first boss by just buying bombs. The real fun is how you can customize your gear. I've got a flame build going, medium where I took a ruin from a hammer that makes it so I can throw my weapon on fire, pretty cool. The game really opens up in terms of builds after the first boss. A note on durability. Your weapons and armor don't degrade with use, just your tools. Your gear only degrades on death. So basically the game mechanic is that death costs you money and not experience like "souls." As long as you repair your tools in town regularly it's not that annoying. They just wanted a penalty for dying.

I played it for 3 hours so far. I think it takes time for the player to get used to the combat, it will take time for the developers to flesh things out properly. But the core gameplay feels pretty good, I am very optimistic for the future. It can turn out to be a gem of a game.

Having watched various videos and streams, it's obvious to me Moon Studio made another game I would absolutely love to play but physically can't because my reaction timing isn't good enough. I loved the look of the Ori games, got the first one and had to return it because I just couldn't time the platforming elements correctly. :(

This title scratched an itch I didn't know I had. It's so dense with routes to discover and encounters to find. Even unfinished, I'd pay a premium for this, and that was before I fixed my performance issues. On the topic of weighty combat, there are lighter weapons, combined with a light equip load, you can zip around. And since you can backstab some enemies in combat, going low armor is definitely viable. For heavy weapons, though, you want to tank and spank, and it will be a slower experience. Stamina issues can be alleviated with enchanted gear. Durability hits are basically just a gold sink consequence for repeated deaths. Enemies don't respawn on death, nor do you lose exp, and I'm assuming it exists for there to be something to be concerned about. Other than having a minor set back.

Appreciate these insights - knowing that you don't lose exp on death makes the durability loss a little more tolerable

Thanks for this! I will never understand why durability is used in games, except in niche scenarios. If I wanted realism, I'd just not play video games.

just love it! but as you said its early access so ye a few buggy elements.. but just in the first few weeks theres been alot improvements with the technical issues so the stutters and other issues isnt as bad... as a game i see a bright future if the developer do what they promise!!! havent had this much fun with a game for along time.
