Instead of using water to put out the flame on the spill, get a small candle size container, fill it with sand and douse the flame that way. You could also store all of the spills in there for future use.

Love that idea since it can be used again soon after if desired and not wet! thanks!

This was the first time I’d ever heard of/seen a spill used - thanks, Linda. I will look more closely for them in future visits to historic houses here in CT. And, Carol, the sand for extinguishing is so logical! A little wall salt box could hold the sand 🤔, and a candle box could hold the spills. Or, as you suggest, one could have a spill “bouquet” in the container of sand.

@@newenglandfinelivingwe have candles at church that people can light. We have wax wicks to light the candle and a bowl of sand to extinguish the flame. So I can't take complete credit for the idea 😊.

Dear Linda, you live in such a beautiful place. I visited the USA for the first time when I was nine years old, and one thing that catch my attention was the beautiful homes and the trees along the road. As I get older, I appreciate even more this kind of videos, because they are full of culture and have absolutely a good vibe. Have a nice week.

You should make little bundles of those spills ,and homemade candles for holiday gifts! What a lucky recipient that would be. That drive and visit to the cemetery was awesome. I have never seen cast iron headstones. Beautiful. And that tranquil stream. Ahhhhhhhhh, what a way to spend an afternoon. Love the rain footage, the sound of the waterfall, the dragon flys and birdsong. Such peace... you are blessed.

Linda I first saw Spills in a David Suchet's portrayal of Agatha Christie's Poirot. In fact a clue had been left among the spills. BTW, the spills were in a pretty vase on the mantle of a fireplace in a bedroom. I am enjoying your little trips around New England...so nice to follow along online.

What a beautiful video to enjoy to start my day! You provide such interesting content. The headstones made of metal are brilliant, avoids the damage vandals can do to stone headstones. And Queen Ann’s lace can also be coloured which is fun for young ones to understand the uptake of water.

You could make little bundles of lavendar and put it in a oblong basket withbundles of the firestarter curled wooden sticks...add some pine cones, dried colorful fall leaves, acorns etc. You would have a lovely table display and the lavendar would be a pleasing scent to burn in a fireplace.

I was very excited to see the spills! I have several antique spill vases and I’d love to have spills to put in them. I never knew they actually made them out of wood. Linds, thank you for this great video. You set the tone by saying, "A no plans adventure for getting lost," I just loved watching this. Your tours of the beautiful New England villages and historic homes are " right up my alley" I search youtube for similar videos but yours are the best. You mastered cinematography and filming with music selections with your "part-of- the-subject" view point making your audience feel part of your experience. Kudos to you. Searching for my family history and old cemeteries is also one of my hobbies. I remember visiting family in Amherst, NH, and coming across an 18th + 19th cenetery seeing that someone left fresh flowers on a grave. How touching to see that someone traced an ancestor and wanted to show respect. Looking forward to next week's adventure. God bless your " kindred spirit ". Robert

Linda, another thought regarding the dragonflies…..! We vacation in Minnesota and when there is a new “hatch” of mosquitoes, the dragonflies appear.😊 We cheer them on from inside the screened porch, haha. I always say that Minnesota mosquitoes are as big as hummingbirds!! Thank you for the lovely drive, our daughter and family lived in Stow, Ma for 8 years. We would take many rambling drives, just as you did! I so enjoy having the opportunity to “ride” with you.❤ Thank you for the reminder to slow down and enjoy this beautiful world. Linda ...I have never heard of a spill plane but what a neat tool from the 18th century! I don't think there is anything nicer than hopping in the car and driving along new roads and byways .... I usually find some new and interesting out of the way place to shop or dine or just look at because of these spur of the moment drives.... with no particular place in mind....and you captured some beautiful scenery. This year for some reason we are absolutely inundated with all kinds of butterflies... and they're so pretty to watch. I recently decided I want to memorize the presidents in order. So far I have six committed to memory. 🙄Are you going to try to use the spill plane or is it for decor. It amazes me to see gadgets made so long ago. Hot weather is going to be back on Thursday here, but I have noticed a blush of color in my dogwood leaves. So glad Willow is doing well. 🥰
