There’s a learning curve associated with kamados, though it’s not that steep. I have a classic joe 3 and it’s served me well these past few years. Lots of people say that they have issues with low and slow on kamados, but if you remember to buy high quality charcoal, and light the charcoal at the bottom for smokes, you should be good. Cleanup is actually less of a hassle on a kamado compared to my Traeger timberline 1300. Traeger has me in constant fear of flare ups, so I find myself scouring the thing of grease literally after every cook.

I have had so much trouble with my Timberline XL with flame out sensor replaced twice, then the motherboard and nothing worked kept getting the flame out sensor error. Then Traeger switch me out with a new Timberline XL grill only to get the same problem again. Now waiting on a flame sensor for this second new Timberline XL grill but nothing have been shipped out it's been going on two weeks and every time I call I have to wait countless hours just to get through. I am so frustrated with this new Timberline XL grill and wanting them to just give my money back. NOTE: THIS IS TGHE SECOND TIMBERLINE XL GRILL SAME PROBLEMS

I have the Timberline 850 and when I saw Traeger was coming out with a new model I was excited. I love everything about this grill/smoker...........except the price. Like many other comments have suggested, if I want to upgrade, I'd probably do the Lone Star or Pitts and Spitts before this. The extra $1,000 will buy a lot of pellets.

I just looked and “Pitts and Spitts” is just as expensive if not more expensive than the new timberline, not to mention it’s still using 30 year old technology for the temperature probe, auger motor and fan. Not worth it in my opinion, but you do you. I’m blown away with everything Traeger managed to do with this grill, absolutely next level and worth the extra money!

Great video! I noticed you left that Meater probe in the tomahawk steak while searing it. The probe was resting on a HOT skillet, Meater probes are only good to 527°F inside the smoker (ambient) temperature, so did you just ruin a $100 probe? Just thought you should know. You should've used an instant read thermometer for your seared temperature.

@AV8R_1
@AV8R_1 Жыл бұрын
@@mrhappy9911 Its well made, but it has some glaring faults. The big two are -1- The burn pot needs to be perfectly and correctly seated to avoid a possible fire beneath the burn pot, and -2- The design is meant to collect ash and grease in one easy to empty pot beneath the cooking chamber, but this was a poor choice in design. Often its not just ash being blown or collecting in the grease pot, but glowing embers, which have caused quite a few people grease fires in the ash pot. That being said, this is easy to correct. just put a large foil pan on the bottom racks to collect grease drippings and then only ash will end up in the ash pot. But this means you will only be cooking on the upper shelves. For me this is fine, this is a better placement anyway on a pellet smoker since they don't have the convective flow of an offset. As for the value... I think its over-priced by about a grand, but you're paying for the Traeger name, I guess... The quality of the unit is still better than any Pitboss Ive used, but is it worth nearly 4K? I don't think so. However, it is completely controllable and able to be monitored with a phone app, even away from your house, so that helps if you have to run to the store and you see a temperature spike. Mine also runs about 50 degrees cooler than it says it is, so I ruined a few cooks before I realized I was cooking at way too low a temp. Meater probes will help here. It does make great smoke with good pellets, but it needs a hack to allow the super-smoke feature to work at higher temps. All in all its a good pellet smoker, but I personally don't think its worth more than about $2700. That's just my opinion. oh... and the induction burner works well and is a nice touch!

@@AV8R_1 awesome take, thanks so much!! I just had my bjiii refunded and was going to move to this. It’s a shane that there is a design fault, as the ease of cleaning appealed to me alot more than the 1300….very undecided now
@AV8R_1
@AV8R_1 Жыл бұрын
@@mrhappy9911 the foil pan actually keeps it easy to clean. It does make a LOT of ash though, and much of it does not make it into the bucket. I highly recommend cleaning it after every cook. That being said, you can sweep all of the ash into the ash bucket, or you can just vacuum it all out with a shop vac. I personally go to shop vac route.

Hi, I'm in the mids of planning my outdoor kitchen and have been a fan of your channel. I currently use a Traeger Pro and I really like it, but the searing I have to do in house and I'm trying to avoid having to go in and out to do a full meal. I was thinking of pairing my current Traeger with a Mont Alpi island (Grilla Grills is another option), which would allow me to smoke, (real) grill and sear. I have three questions: 1) Would this version fit as a built in between Mont Alpi modules? Height of both seem to be the same at 35" 2) If building my kitchen around the Timberline, do you still see a need for gas & burner? 3) If in built in mode, the induction burner is a stand alone on the side. Would just adding a stand alone regular induction on the side work? I know this is a lot, any comments would help. Thanks

First, solid work working around the grill in a white shirt and keeping it clean! :-) Joking aside, assuming you have experience with the previous gen Timberlines, how does the smoke flavor and output compare with the new one (without using super smoke)? The few videos I've seen would seem to suggest it might produce more. I'm weighing between this and the Lone Star Grillz pellet grill. To date, the LSG one seems to be the closest option to a stick burner, as far as pellet grills go. Thanks!

@@gabester1 well, I haven't done anything yet, but I'm pretty sure when I do, LSG will be the way I go. There are certainly pluses and minuses to both. The biggest minus right away for Lone Star Grillz will be the wait to get one (sounds like it takes several months). I find myself a little paranoid of that fancy controller on the new timberline causing me heartache later down the road. But I have nothing to base that on. Just seems super fancy to be sitting out on the horrible cold (I'm in Iowa). But, that's not to say I don't look at it every time I'm in Scheels. :-)

@@Viper515 haha thats a good point, I’m in a similar situation in Utah, either really cold in the winter or pretty hot in the summer, and thats another reason I love the idea of the LSG, that off-road package will make it much easier to move back and forth from the garage to my backyard. I leave my current (much cheaper) Traeger outside with just the cover on it, but I have wondered how much the extreme weather might affect it, and the fancy new controller would be cause for concern. I’ve also wondered about the whole build, it seems there is some believe that the double-walled construction of the new Traeger could be just as good or better than the 3/16” inch single-walled steel construction of the LSG (certainly not when it comes to pure strength and durability, I am only talking about heat retention). I would love to find out which does better in a cold climate, I was watching a video of someone with an LSG pellet smoker who said he burned through the entire 40 lb hopper doing an overnight brisket cook! Not sure if that would be due to the cold (he says in the video they were having a cold spell in Texas at the time, temp in the 30s), or is that normal pellet consumption with the LSG Pellet Smoker because they have “tricked” the PID controller to have more variable temps to produce more smoke? The more I watch, the more questions I have, LOL.

Nice to see an honest review by someone who paid their own money for it. I'm glad you like it. It really is a nice Pellet Grill. However, I think Trager priced themselves out of the Average backyard Joe purchasing this. Those high Volumn dealers cater to a different clientele. From Launch this should have been a product ONLY found at specialty shops for clients who have the money to configure a full outdoor kitchen. With all the other USA made options out there like Yoder, Pitts & Spitts, LoneStar, Gator, etc. I feel like this is more of a showcase and show-off grill (my opinion). I'd have more interest in the grill if they had an option that lowered the cost if you didn't want the new side burner or even need or want the Meater Thermometers. Although the thermometers alone are great add. I think in due time when more comparison reviews work their way out. Time will only tell if the new engineering changes are worth the upgrade because the design and additions alone aren't worth it to me.

My first Timberline XL didn't make it through the seasoning process without the control panel / display completely shorting out. After 3 hours on the phone troubleshooting they decided that the entire panel and hopper section needed to be replaced. The replacement piece showed up seriously bent and unusable. They replace the entire grill brand new. That grill caught on fire the very first time I tried to bring it up to temperature. The auger can easily migrate pellets behind the firepot down into the fan compartment and collect mounds and mounds of smoldering pellets for hours entirely undetected. By the time I found the fire beneath the cabinets it had melted the underside of the grill, the cord, and a huge flame with smoke was burning uncontrollably. Luckily it wasn't an overnight cook or a cook that I started with the intention of running out of the house. No clue what Traeger is going to do to make it right, but I am lucky I didn't burn my house down with the family inside it. Careless, dangerous and just awful design of the fire pot.

Does it actually smoke any better than the timberline 1300? It runs current under a hot plate?! That’s nothing new. Why don’t I just use a searing plate? Great video. Been waiting for a non "influencer" review of this. Maybe it's just a mental thing but I still have a hard time considering a Traeger at that price point. There are a lot of interesting options when you start getting that high. Even for less there's something like the Lone Star Grillz pellet smoker that everyone seems to love and is made really solidly. Approaching $4k you get things like pretty much all 304 stainless options like the Coyote one. What are your thoughts on this? Meater built in is pretty cool though. I know I've been eying a pellet smoker to go along with my Hestan 42. So don't need the burner on this side or any searing things. Really considering quality, durability, and smoke flavor. People seem to rave about the Lone Star pellet grill flavor and build quality (as well as features etc) and I love my fireboard 2 so love it's integration. Then there's the Coyote for all stainless as an option. On the more expensive custom end there's Ironside smokers where they make basically a high quality insulated vertical cabinet charcoal smoker (that can be mostly automated with a blower) but it has a pellet option as well as the ability to run as a pellet smoker solely (using fireboard 2) and then even put splits over the burnpot section to also infuse some stick burner flavor etc. Then of course the Memphis, Twin Eagles etc... Also every other one that's cheaper. A lot of competition hitting at this price range.
