Yes. That's the long and the short of it. Look who's hands the bass is in.

The headstock tuner layout is good but they missed an golden opportunity to remedy one of the shortcomings of the Fender headstock. They should have moved the E string tuner post farther away from the nut. With Hipshot Ultralights and plenty of room available on the left side of the headstock, it's a no brainer to move the E tuner farther away from the nut. They did a good job locating the G string tuner post well away from the nut. All you need are E and G tuner post distances similar to a Spector 4 or a mid grade Soundgear 4. The name of the bass is interesting, but it's not helping the cause. Some folks aren't even going to bother trying to pronounce that. In some places, we're still struggling with the word "Precision". Best to go with a name that's easier to chew. Especially since you're building in quantity overseas and need to sell some of these things.

Thanx! Can you please also review straight to DI sound?
@BassWhispererTV4 жыл бұрын
I suppose so, I’m going to shoot it again with flat wound. I don’t have any fancy ass DI’s laying around, but I’ll see what I can do. I personally don’t want to hear that... I’m an amp guy. I used to use my Greenboy for reference, but I can’t where I shoot now... a better small rig is on the way!

@@BassWhispererTV I understand. You can plug it in your sound card with no DI, it’ll be enough to hear what it sounds like. It would be great if you do. somewhat off topic, but it really irks me that you're in Tucson. I lived there for about six years and was never able to find a bass teacher I gelled with. I move away and a year later (and several years after the guitar shop I worked at closed down) and you're down there. cosmic bad luck.

2021 there will be lots of short scale basses for sale after the hype is over. Respect to Ed but nobody will want these things in the future. They wanted us to buy Kala U basses and that was just a fad as well.
@BassWhispererTV4 жыл бұрын
It is definitely a fad now, and some will fall away from using them. But they’ve always been here, and I’ve always had two or three in the collection because they sound different. These days, that sound fits in perfectly with my band, and with so many really nice shorties out there...
@BassWhispererTV4 жыл бұрын
And the Kala...I had one. Sounded great, not fun for me to play though. I have a longer scale one now by Lanakai - 24” scale. Way better to play.

#edfriedland Even though I do like quirky basses and short scale basses very much and also really, really dig the sounds of this bass... why? WHY?! Why this lonely E-tuner on top of the headstock?? Why? And if you really have to put this E-tuner over there, why not put it further forwards on the headstock so you gain string tension on the e-string? Please help me out on this one!?!? :-D ;-) #nordycatbass
@BassWhispererTV4 жыл бұрын
Can’t answer for the builder, but I know that part of it was correcting a string pull issue from the original Panther bass. I dig the headstock, it’s a little odd at first... but those lollipops make me hot!
@mauriliomina8234 жыл бұрын
Why not! (?)
@jrbbass4 жыл бұрын
The idea that you gain string tension by moving the tuner location goes against basic rules of physics. I know Fodera has some unique headstock B string locations based on the idea that extending the string length will impact tension, but physics says after the witness point string length is not relevant.
@BassWhispererTV4 жыл бұрын
@@jrbbass This is an argument I've seen for years. I won't refute scientific evidence, but subjectively, I've felt that string length past the witness point at the bridge on lower strings created a perceptible change in the "feel" and tonal response of the string. I've also had 5-strings with the Low B peg further from the nut and felt it was part of the response. Is it all in my head? Maybe, but if I hear it, it's real enough for me. I've learned not to state this as a claim, I keep those observations to myself. Last thing I want is to be accused of being anti-science!
