Outstanding tone. I think the flats really bring out the full voice potential of that bass.
@BassWhispererTV3 жыл бұрын
I agree, but I was really digging it with rounds too, I didn't expect that.

I used to read Ed's column in Bass Player. He always had great advice and seemed like such a great guy. Did not even think to see him here on KZbin. Keep up the great work Ed!

It’s great to have demos by somebody who knows how to make a bass sing.

You are the man Ed! Every bass sounds great in your hands!

Well, thanks. I've played a few that didn't... but it might have been me!

Super nice!!! Digging the Teisco greenburst behind you, too!

I may give that one some screen time one day, it sounds great - if not a little rustic.

THIS is how you demo/review a bass. Different configurations, same bassline. And also not play like you're trying to be hired by a band.
@BassWhispererTV3 жыл бұрын
Actually, if you play like that, you WILL get hired by a band. It's all the show off chops stuff that gets you fired!
@BassWhispererTV3 жыл бұрын
But thanks! I'll take the compliment.

@@BassWhispererTV Oh, we sure are old enough to know that, haha. But some reviewers here on youtube seem to be missing that part. Thanks for asnwering, Ed, love your channel. Cheers from Porto Alegre, Brazil. Take care!
@mdspman0003 жыл бұрын
@@BassWhispererTV The best part of your reviews is playing along with your bass lines...because, well they are bass lines you might actually use in a band.

I have been listening to the Bass Whisperer for many years. He prefers that "Old school thick bass tone". /// "Nothing wrong with that !!!".

Just ordered mine today.....With flats. The wait begins. Carey hit this one out of the park. Nice review.

My Acinonyx is arriving today and now I'm really torn of flats vs rounds for this bass. It sounds great both ways.

I love your work with The Mavericks, your playing and your tone! With all of the different "voices" the cat bass has, is there one that would be your choice if you were playing it with The Mavericks?
@BassWhispererTV2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I have played the Cat bass with the Mavericks actually, a few times. I use the "All In" setting with the deepest treble rolloff out of the time.

Why do short scale basses have a proper neck pick up and long not? Seems back to front to me!
@BassWhispererTV3 жыл бұрын
Don’t know why, but there are a few long scales that have “proper” neck pickups. Fender Tele bass (with the humbucker) comes to mind. The Ovation Magnum too.
@jazzman19543 жыл бұрын
@@BassWhispererTV Those are the exceptions that prove the rule perhaps. My point is that short scales have a fat plummy sound so why exaggerate that with a mud bucker? A long scale gives a tight focused sound so why...... Just my thoughts

Great playing! Not a fan of the sound with flats. It's okay, but seems to lose some of the "vibe" it had with the rounds.
