I have to admit, at 2:58 when you started playing, I got a little bit emotional. Reminded me of the early years of my endeavour in gear nerdery. Great to see you back Ed!

Same here lol. I found this channel back in 2008, a year of so after I first started playing bass. I actually bought a Genz Benz Shuttle MAX 6.0 because of Ed. Great memories watching this channel!

A P bass is the best overall. Other basses are great and like icing on the cake but the P bass is the foundation especially if you’re studio recording a lot of songs

Ed, you’re the best reviewer. And not obnoxious like the other pretenders. And this GL bass sounds like a super p bass. Very nice 🤘🏼

Ed, watching your video on the Musicman Sterling 9 years ago inspired me to become a better bassist (and purchase that particular bass which is still as great as the day I got it). I've come a long way since then and it's great to see you still making videos and inspiring others. Thank you, I hope I'll be as good as you one day!

A great review as always. Having owned an original L1000 (#3) at one time I was prepared to fall in love with this bass, but the huge frets (.110 x .057 Jescar) put me off it. Having said that I may order one w/ different frets which is always an option w/ G&L.

How has that bass held up ? I have a 83' on the way to Guitar Center for me to try. I am not sure if I should save for the new L-1000 or try an older model ? Any advice.
@Jeffsafe5 жыл бұрын
Go down and check out the 83 and see if it’s in good condition. If the neck is straight, if the frets are in good shape, if the electronics are sound, if it sounds good. It might be a great value. I see them going from $800 to $1200 used. The new ones seem to be coming in around $1599. If it’s in good shape and around the $800 price I might opt for the older one. If it’s closer to $1200 I’d just save a little more and go for the newer model. Mine, outside of some buckle rash and cracking paint finish and some cosmetic wear, is in awesome shape. The neck and fret wear are prefect. So I know they can age well and I wasn’t the most gentle of players through the years.
@cubby67085 жыл бұрын
Sounds good. I’ve been reading that the older necks could be troublesome. These new ones just look great, and sound amazing. I want a side by side comparison, but very open to vintage too.. ahhhh

@jcmcclain575 жыл бұрын
Bass Whisperer TV, Ed, that is a powerful testimony and especially considering the snobbery I have heard about basswood. You probably don’t recognize my name, but you were instrumental in my first serious bass purchase a ‘03 P Am Std and my first G&L (M 2500). The emails we exchanged really made me look hard and decide to get a G&L. So good to see the Whisperer back on my video feed.
@r.l.rachel7402 жыл бұрын
What is great about this video is that you let us know the different sounds the bass makes when made of different woods. Very, very nice as no one else does this.

Great to see you back Ed. Long time fan and student of your Walking Bass Lines books. How would you compare the L-1000 to the Kiloton? I have a friend that says the Kiloton is voiced more like a PBass. I have a hard time getting my head around them being so similar but producing different tones.

@williamyoung30704 жыл бұрын
I had been jonesing for one of these for a while. But when I dropped a Bill Lawrence P-46 pickup into a P Bass, it all but eliminated my L-1000 lust. However, I must admit, if I thought that playing a L-1000 would get me even an inch closer to sounding as frightening as Dee Murray, I'd buy 10 of them.

How does it compare to an l2000 played passively with the neck pickup soloed?
@BassWhispererTV5 жыл бұрын
I haven't had the chance to do a direct comparison... but OMG on the 1K is different than Series Mode on the L2k... for one, you get some single coil hum with OMG... but it also has more low end, less midrange than Series.

I bought one of these (tobacco burst), It is set up with LaBella 760s, not exactly what I expected, reminds me of a Hofner or Rickenbacker, tested first with PJB 800 and two C4 cabs, did much better with Warwick Pro Tube IV into Goliath 4x10, getting used to it.
