This common practice can get you fined heavily... yes YOU! Other than that, this was a beautiful trip with some very nice camping spots and one very bad road that we needed to get turned around on.

What a beautiful area. I was just telling a friend the other day that if I could travel again, I'd want to go spend time in Utah. I've driven through several times but was always in a hurry to get somewhere and couldn't stop and take in any of the sights. I'll likely never get there, but your video was very inspiring and enjoyable! Thanks for taking us along. The pie looked yummy!😊

100% agree. People just fly through all these beautiful places. My gf and I spent an entire day wandering around Monument Valley. 90% of the people would pull up, hop out, grab a picture and take off. I don't think they even looked at anything with their actual eyes.

In my opinion all of your videos are awesome. These particular ones are the best. I love the landscape and the many points of interest. I thought I was falling out of the vehicle on that rough road, an action video. And a six toed petroglyph, what does that mean? And how did they get them so high up on the rock face? Well, safe travels. And may the pie be with you!!🤙

I have mixed feelings about places I've loved becoming crowded. Living in Oregon, we used to be able to drive to the coast on a Friday afternoon and get a walk up campsite, but those days are long gone. Now I live at the coast and it's crawling with tourists, but I used to be that tourist, so.... On the upside, people are outside recreating instead of stuck in their homes addicted to their screens. Getting their kids outside to see the real world. We've camped in Valley of the Gods a few times and it was extremely windy every time. Gooseneck State Park, too. It is beautiful, though, that whole area.

I agree with what you're saying. At least people are getting out with their families and doing something, because too many people, for far too long, have just been staying within their city limits until they retire and have been missing out on life along the way.

I sure enjoy seeing these beautiful locations, I've been to them all for the most part. But now because of the tourist influx I've been loving my special 'Hideout' spots more n more. Rick, I call them that, but anybody can find them if one spends days n weeks searching those older grown-in half buried dirt roads that don't look traveled very often if at all. So yes, after doing my reconoiter over the years & paying my dues by Trekking into unknown territory I have 30 plus perfect campsites All to my Own in the Tri-State (Az, Ut, Nev.) Once I remember parking under the Mexican Hat rock formation to cop some sleep at 4am, and all those hours in the dark I kept dreaming, convinced that Stinking Hat was going to fall off n land on me. 115° yesterday. Hi Linda.

Am I a little addicted to Gonagain? Two weeks ago I saw a sign that said "Rogerson, Jarbidge" and I thought "Wait! Didn't Gonagain have a video on going through there last year? I think they said you could only get there going that way now because the southern road through Nevada was closed..." Yeah, good thing I looked at the map. Jarbidge was NOT just a quick jaunt. I wanted to follow in your footsteps but I was on a schedule and happily did NOT go get lost on the dirt roads of southern Idaho. That said, I'll keep watching. Another year and I'll probably have more courage and determination and will be out there finding those out of the way places Rick and Linda have shown me.

Thank you Rick and Linda for yet another beautiful but more importantly to me educational video. You two capture the nuances of travel, the decision making with logic and reasoning that is just missing from other creators. I believe it's because your vids are packed with tips and tempered with wisdom of experience. PS- i think the National Park Service should charge filming fees based on the size of the production. TV or movie sets going out with multiple vehicles and more than 8 people should pay for oversight fees for monitoring to prevent environmental pressures. Individuals on foot dont do near the damage that trucked in filming equipment, 20/30 crew members, or location setups do.

Hey guys ANOTHER awesome video. Two questions 1.) Do you all use any software or apps to find campsites? 2. What do you think of distribution hitches. My 6x10 is a bit heavy in the front - 2650 lbs total, tongue is around 500 lbs - tow vehicle is a 2016 Colorado V6 gas getting 12mpg on average. Yes, I have electric brakes. Thanks in advance. PS - any plans for Western Oregon in the future.
@gonagain
@gonagain 11 ай бұрын
If you are unable to relocate some of that weight closer to the axle, then there is nothing wrong to using a distribution style hitch, which we've used on other trailers in the past. We use a combination of apps and paper maps. FreeCampsites.net, Campendium are great and for public lands we use the PublicLands.org app. Oh, and so far no plans for western OR. We do like eastern OR a lot.

Still photography is allowed to be posted. So, until the video law is fixed, just go "Ken Burns style" or slide-show style. Either is higher quality than how most KZbinrs shoot video anyway.

Thanks. There's the possibility of the video being classified as a "documentary" though, even if you are using stills. I think there's a bill before congress right now that is aimed at getting this cleared up, because it's KZbinrs that show everyone how beautiful our public lands are.

Moab, Monument Valley and Sedona are my favorite places in America ... mostly I think because I have lived on the ocean most of my life .... I totally agree that you shouldn't go to these places if you don't appreciate Peace and Quiet ... you want to avoid crowds like I do you go when it's either too hot or too cold and just tough it up ... I biked the17 mile road in "Valley of the God's" once in October ... was out early and beleive I only seen a few cars the whole time ... all by myself doing my John Wayne impressions ... was told I had to stay on the road with bike ... still don't know that was correct or not ...
@gonagain
@gonagain 11 ай бұрын
Having to stay on the road is correct, because even the trail left by a bike across untouched desert will last and be visible for many years. You're right about visiting during the off season when it's quieter.

@@gonagain I know having to stay on "Trails" is quite common that's the way it is all around Moab .... that time I stayed at "The View" hotel on the Navajo Reservation and there were locals soliciting tourists in the parking lot for escorted Horse Trail Rides .... I understand the Valley of the Gods is BLM controlled and Hotel is Reservation controlled .... it was the Hotel Management that said I had to stay on the road ... so my suspicions ... it might of been just for their own benefit and not BLM regulations ... staying at the the Hotel was kinda cool ... I sat outside having a beer at a patio table where they had a Movie Projector playing Fort Apache on a giant screen against one of the buildings ... you could watch the movie while looking at the real "Monument Valley" ... quite the experience for me being an old western movie fan ... the Hotel is called "The View" for a good reason ...

Seeing KZbin videos like yours do not make me want to stay on my couch and just take in the views you share, it actually makes me want to jump in my van and take off to see the beauty for myself. I'm certain there are others who feel the same, and have visited the places you've shared with us(and sampled the pies at the restaurants you've suggested). In my younger days, as a teacher(in the 70's 80's 90's and early 2000's), during summer vacation I did just that. If I read a Louis L'amour or a Zane Grey Western about a neat place in the story, saw some Travelogue or pictures from family member's vacations, I'd load up my dog and go out to see the places for myself. Thanks for sharing, and stirring the traveling bug in me....

Hey guys, I noticed around 17 minute mark you’re talking about the hieroglyphics or the petroglyphs rather. Rick pointed out the foot with the six toes. It has been established that there are other worldly creatures, some say, Sasquatch, or forms thereof, and if you recall back in the days when they said that Indians used to walk up and hold up their hand and say how ? Well, turns out they used to hold her hand up from very far away. The reason they did this was to identify if you were human or alien being at a distance so they would have time to either get away or prepare for some kind of battle or altercation. Because they would count the fingers on the hands because many have six fingers as well. Just thought I’d share that with you guys and he sure and let me know when y’all encounter a Sasquatch or see something that effect have a great trip.

I hope you're right and they do change that! I've heard all the aimed at bigger production. I've heard even if you don't monetize. Then I heard it's everyone. But one youtuber was told by a forest agent that it was ok and no permit needed 🙄And I've heard it's ok if you don't monetize. I'm tired of either having to avoid certain places or put them in separate videos in order to not monetize them. It's so ridiculous. It's not like we don't pay taxes on the few bits we make on these videos. But I will stop there before I really get myself going! LOL. Yeah we kind of have plans of where to stop and hope to be able to stop by those times. But when we was in Montana we didn't have our camper. We were using our hummer. It's not nearly as comfortable. But we did end up sleeping in it more than we thought due to not finding a campsite that suited us. Honestly, I was scared of bear in several of those spots LOL. Then a couple had some peeps that made me feel uncomfortable. So we drove on. BUT I will say, we did not pay for one single nights stay. All rest areas or boondocking on blm/forest lands. That's weird that she would have told you to unhook when it wasn't busy. Sounds like she just wanted to sound important lol. Ok I'm just gonna not talk about this permit crap. If I get started, I may not stop. I will say, it didn't seem any of the parks we hit (other than the Tetons) was lacking in people. If they're normally busier than what they were, that would be way too crowded. MMMMM love chocolate cream pie! I'd love a slice of that lol.

Help me understand about that ruling if you are not monetized or have an active yt, face book, Instagram or any of the several other platforms, can you take stills not video and post those platforms or no to that too? Take for instance I live in Independence Missouri President Truman’s home and Library are those places subject to this ruling as well or how about a drive by recording? Or say even a better example Hot Springs, Arkansas where the whole town is the national park. Are those pictures also not allowed I know I think I understand video probably but snap shots too?

You must not have heard how much the permit costs. Your hot dog stand would take up space, attract a crowd and create wear and tear on the land, whereas taking a picture or video while keeping to yourself bothers no one. Should all the tourists be required to buy that permit? By the way, I think you should be able to open that hot dog stand because I'd be your first customer.

You guys are confused about the filming laws and restrictions. It's just not true that you're not allowed to film and put it on KZbin. That has NEVER been enforced the way people have been catastrophizing about. The other thing is, if you really believe it is forbidden, then it would also be forbidden on BLM land and FS land. It's the SAME LAW.
@gonagain
@gonagain 11 ай бұрын
Not forbidden; you need a permit ($$$) to film in a National Park. This is from the National Parks website: "Effective October 28, 2022, the National Park Service rescinded interim guidance that was in place during litigation regarding commercial filming and has returned to longstanding laws and regulations governing commercial filming in parks. This means that all commercial filming that occurs within a unit of the National Park System requires a permit. "Commercial filming" means the film, electronic, magnetic, digital, or other recording of a moving image by a person, business, or other entity for a market audience with the intent of generating income. Individual parks may require a permit for non-commercial filming if a permit is necessary to manage the activity to protect park resources and values, minimize conflict between user groups, or to ensure public safety. More details about filming and permits in parks are available online: Filming & Still Photography Permits" BLM and National Forest lands are not part of the National Park system.
@wj7867
@wj7867 11 ай бұрын
@@gonagain Again, you are mis-interpreting that guidance. Neither the NPS nor the Dept of Justice is enforcing that the way you (and many others) have been saying. Also again, the NPS guidance is simply following a Federal law that applies equally to BLM and USFS. If you THINK it is illegal on NPS land, then it must be the same on BLM land. Obviously, do you what you want or what you think is right, but... Maybe talk to some of your colleagues in the KZbin in National Parks game. A lot of folks who briefly stopped (and announced the same misintrepration as the reason) are back at it. Or talk to a lawyer who is familiar with it. Enjoy.
