Thank you, Mr. Eliminator. Last summer I rebuilt a 1988 Simplicity Snowblower and, during the one time here in Central Indiana I used it a couple of weeks ago, I didn't understand why it wasn't clearing as well as I thought it should. I recalled that, when reassembling, I guessed at the proper orientation of the augers and, it turns out, I guessed wrong and had them switched. I especially appreciated your video of the improperly installed augers, as it was easy to compare mine. And I pity that poor soul who ended up with two right-hand augers! I'm really grateful for your video and you can now call me a subscriber. Know that your video made all the difference for me. Thanks so much.

Great video I had seen a video of a guy who was doing his driveway with an MTD 2 stage snowblower and he was complaining about how it wasn't blowing snow that great and leaving trails of snow. I commented on his video and told him his augers were working in reverse, he didn't believe me because he bought it brand new. I'm going to find the posting and send him your awesome video then maybe he'll believe you lol. I totally watch all your videos your to the piont and show every step you take to repair the problem at hand. Keep up the great work we all appreciate it.

Thanks Ken! And yes it may be hard to believe, but I honestly did hear that story of the gentleman who purchased a craftsman new from Sears here in Canada and it had 2 of the same augers installed, so one side wouldn't work properly. I suppose it's possible, even if unlikely to happen.

Great video! I learned this the hard way, even with the knowledge and experience to know direction on the augers. I inadvertently slid the auger shaft into the gear box backwards and the augers followed suit. After 2 hours carefully reassembling, I fired it up and started at the augers spinning….and then realized and couldn’t believe I had made such a rookie mistake. Especially since I was totally aware of how they needed to go. So I had to take it all apart and correct it. Lesson learned.

@@waynestefinashen239 Actually, I just generalized my description. All the snowblowers came from FreeCycle. All the other equipment came to me different ways. I actually had a few curb finds brought to me by people I know, but also some donated from folks who do cleanouts, some just brought to me and dropped off when people found out I was doing this and a bunch donated by baking customers on my eList. Another great video. It's probably just my OCD, but the auger fins on the driver's left side appear to be bent enough that their spiral path does not cover the entire width of the auger shaft. I would be out there with a big pipe wrench or some other lever arm to bend them back out. Just me and my OCD, hahaha.
@EliminatorPerformance
@EliminatorPerformance Жыл бұрын
The fin is slightly bent on that side yes, that's the last part of the repair as straightening them outside of the housing doesn't work because you can create interference where it'll hit the housing. So we painted everything and put it all back together and then just have to bend the one piece towards the center a bit! Thanks for watching!

Front the from view, your impeller is spinning counter clock wise. If it was spinning counter clock wise would the rakes push the snow outwards ?
@SevenSixTwo2012
@SevenSixTwo2012 Жыл бұрын
Wow, I never realized that the augers have a direction. It would've been nice if manufacturers indicated it on them, kind of like they do with directional tires (printed arrow, etc.). I guess a good tip would be to indicate how they go back together with a sharpie, prior to taking them apart.
@waynestefinashen239
@waynestefinashen239 Жыл бұрын
Good idea just make sure you identify it to the side of the housing because i have seen too many people mark something left or right then forget if they marked it from the front or back of the machine eh?
@kenhilson786
@kenhilson786 Жыл бұрын
Assuming augers are on correctly does it affect anything if you remove the shear pin and rotate auger 180 degrees and reinstall it? Or is symmetric around 180.
@EliminatorPerformance
@EliminatorPerformance Жыл бұрын
It is symmetric for that side, regardless of which way it's installed. The issue is when someone accidentally installs the right hand side on the left (in either the standard or rotated position) it will cause the spiral to push the snow outwards instead of in towards the impeller.
@garny3766
@garny3766 Жыл бұрын
Yup. Another thing on some blowers is phasing the first stage augers correctly. The inner ends of the first stage augers need to be 90 or 180 apart depending on how many flights otherwise the blower will woof, woof snow out the secondary impeller.
@EliminatorPerformance
@EliminatorPerformance Жыл бұрын
Yes I think that applies to some of the troy bilt snow force ones with the 4 augers

Sir, When replacing the shear bolt. Does it matter how the auger blades are placed when replaced the shear bolt. Please reply.
@tomvandervoort2437
@tomvandervoort2437 Күн бұрын
The tips will be offset at the gearbox no matter which way you turn the auger section on the shaft. If your auger blades are angled as in the video, then just lube the new shear pin and install with the locknut not tightened completely. Leave a bit of slack on the shear bolt so that it can move freely, about 1/16” of “play”.
