I just put these tiles down in my garage and I'm super happy with how it turned out! Thanks again for making this vid. I have a question - did you use any kind of sealant on the tiles? Or if not, has water/liquid been an issue? I'm worried about water getting through the seams and under the tile. Has that been a problem for you?
@Wimya4 жыл бұрын
That’s awesome! I’m glad the video helped out. But no I’ve never sealed them before and I’ve never ran into any lift or moisture issues. I even use a hose to clean out the garage and still no water issues. These tiles are still going strong after three years down in my old garage as well.

@Wimya4 жыл бұрын
Yea It shouldn’t be a major issue to remove them as long as what it’s going on top of isn’t already damaged or deteriorated, if so I could see it being pulled up with the adhesive.

How is it holding up so far, its been a year now correct? Any tips or advice before I jump in and do to my garage? Do you need to smooth out your garage floor before doing this?
@Wimya3 жыл бұрын
Yup just about a year in this garage and going 4 years still in another! It’s honestly held up super well. Biggest tip I can share is just make sure the floor is as clean as possible before install. Use a blower if you have one and get out the dirt/sand/debris off the floor and scrape anything else off of need be

@@Wimya thanks, I worked with commercial floors for 2 years. VCT is great stuff, even the peel and stick can last decades with good prep and a few coats of wax. Ultrashield 22 is a fine wax but Betco's Untouchable would be better suited for a garage. Just in case anyone was curious lol

Yea you could totally use them indoors. Just make sure the flooring you’ll be installing them on top off is prepped well so that they will fully adhere.

Do you have to start in the middle ?
@Wimya2 жыл бұрын
Not saying you have to but Starting in the middle ensures straight lines. If your walls arn’t even lengths or if you have kick outs and you start along the perimeter the lines won’t meet up. Also helps in deciding where you’ll want your cuts if you need to make them.

Are there other glue down tiles which would be a step better? Personally, I find your garage floor to be fantastic and it would a real step up from my worn down painted floor. I'm torn between doing glue down tiles and paint. I'm afraid if I had an epoxy floor and dropped a tool or gouged it with a jack stand that I'd have a real problem fixing it. The estimate for epoxy floor two days ago was $2,500 which is fine but that stuff gets damaged and then you have a problem. With floating tiles, garbage and dirt gets down underneath it. I can just see spilling used motor oil and having a day's clean up ahead of me. How is that good for a mechanic? My garage is really nice now except for a god ugly floor. I did the cabinets, the metal peg board, the lights, the walls and now I need the floor. I'll see if I can post a photo to show how bad my floor is.
@Wimya Жыл бұрын
I’ve been seeing a lot of people installing laminate flooring in garages recently. I’m assuming those are people that don’t really turn wrenches on their garages. For what it’s worth I work on my floors every weekend and I still haven’t had any issues. Like you said when you spill oil on the floor it becomes a pain to clean up.

I'm surprised it has not moved more than you say, the adhesives on these self stick tiles are very light weight so pulling them up would be too easy. Driving a car or trailer/jet ski would be a lot of weight for this glue. As with most things the surface you want to stick to is the most important part to get right to make this work the best it can. You mention you need to take care in cleaning the surface before sticking tiles, my advise to everyone looking to do this is to clean (degrees), sweep and vacuum the floor and then use a good quality concrete primer/paint to seal the floor and create a smoother, cleaner non porous surface for the tiles to stick to. Once down, use a floor roller to compress the tile and glue into the floor surface, you can higher these quite easily, the reason is that the glue is a pressure sensitive adhesive, so it takes time to set and need pressure to set it well.
@Wimya3 жыл бұрын
Being in FL I think has helped these tiles last. If I was in a colder state I’m sure they would become brittle during the colder months. But zero issues what so ever thus far after a year on this garage and over 4 years on another. But like you said, it’s all in the prep.
