When I see Idina Menzel and Adam Pascal sing together I just starting thinking of them singing it as a kid cause Idina and Adam lived a block away from each other and Idina said she used to sing together as kids.

An old video, but....god I love "Merano". It has little to do with the actual plot outside of establishing the setting for act 1 and introducing Freddie and Florence to the audience, but it is such a fun, bouncy, catchy song with some of the more clever lyrics in the show. I also enjoy the little touches of combining a Germanic style march with the lighter, fleeting melodies of more traditional Italian songs, especially during the final reprise. The transition from "Rogers and Hammerstein" into the rocking opening of "What a Scene, What a Joy!" is one of my favorite in musical theatre. Just a delightful opening number and, honestly, a lot more effective than "The Story of Chess" which has basically no connection to the plot at all except for....well...it's about Chess.

This is a great musical. The only detractor, as this shows, is that you get 99.99% of the full experience without sets and minimal staging and choreography. Why spend the money on a full stage production when it doesn’t really add anything?

British choral singing is very hard for Americans to understand. There are so many small variations in diction that it’s hard to tell what sounds they’re supposed to be making as a whole. Even I had to look up the lyrics that the camera didn’t catch clearly.
