As a machinist I love that when you turned off your calipers you opened the jaws. It’s a cardinal sin to keep your jaws closed while not being used. It can cause corrosion by ducking moisture between the 2 surfaces.

Does firing pin protrusion change much over the life of a gun? As the round count increases does protrusion increase, decrease or stay about the same?

Where did you get the flat, flush tip for the igaging tool? I just purchased the full kit and it only includes the rollerball tip, extensions, etc. but NOT the tip seen at 3:54 mark. Thanks

How do you fix the problem of too much protrusion? I’m marking my primer when cycling.
@shuckydarns710 Жыл бұрын
I’m sure you have figured this out in the past 2 years, but a dimple in the primer is normal after chambering a round due to the free floating firing pin design.

Any idea what an enhanced fp should mic to for 7.62x39
@mymusicaccount14563 жыл бұрын
Did you find out? My new 7.62 started out perfect, but after 60 rounds began to have issues with non firing, then stopped firing completely. It dents the primer but no fire. I measure .022 which is undersize.

@@mymusicaccount1456 no I just bought one from black rifle company I believe and an extra power hammer spring , I did find out that century arms had some bad steel case ammunition and sent me back some I sent pictures of the primers almost pierced and no ignition . I will mic my enhanced compared with a mil spec and get back to you

You could get a depth gage base for your Mitutoyo calipers which would make it a lot more accurate and easy to use in this application, which would perhaps be recommended for the hobbyist instead of having a dedicated depth gage?
@ctanderson41184 жыл бұрын
I have learned a ton of info from watching your videos. I have the same depth gage as your iGaging. Where did you get the small flat end? Mine came with a pin end two rou button ends and a large diameter flat end but it wont fit in the bolt face. Thanks.
@oscarostolaza14 жыл бұрын
Can you use the digimatic gauge to measure the distance between the bolt face and the inside channel of the bolt face where the firing pin comes out to determine if the depth is correct and if so what is the min/max range of such measurement? and can this measurement also determine the headspace?
@IsaiahChapter53isAboutJesus3 ай бұрын
I'd like to suggest a much cheaper method. Use feeler guages to measure the space between the bolt tail and the firing pin flange after you lined up the firing pin tip with the bolt face. You're welcome.

What about the protrusion for LR 308 firing pin?
@davidgarrison98234 жыл бұрын
New owner here. I have an Anerderson AM -15. I notice when I pull bolt back I can not see any of the fireing pin protruding at all. Looks like just a small pin hole. Is this normal? I haven't tried firing for this reason fearing something may be wrong. I feel stupid for asking but I bought it used from someone who only used a few times still looks brand new. Thank you
@nickb3174 жыл бұрын
You shouldn't see the pin protruding when you pull the bolt back. You should only see the pin hole. The pin should not protrude out of the hole until you pull the trigger and the hammer strikes the pin, which ignites the primer. When the bolt cycles back, the hammer will reset and your pin should no longer be visible. However, the pin 'floats' meaning there is no spring to keep the pin from moving forward. So you might see the pin sometimes. "...the titanium firing pin is so light, it doesn’t develop enough energy to fire the cartridge during the chambering of a round, or if the rifle is dropped. The AR-15 has a hard-hitting hammer that is required to force the titanium firing pin into the primer hard enough to fire the weapon. That hammer doesn’t touch the free-floating firing pin during chambering of a round or when the rifle is dropped." Would this range of protrusion be the same for ar chambered in 7.62? I had about 60 shots without a problem (new build, zeroing in scope), but suddenly my new gun had a couple failure to fires in the 4th box of 20, then stopped firing all together during the 5th box. Changed to a different box of ammo and still no fire. I packed up because i figured it was just dirty, but when i broke it down i didn't see an unusual amount of grime, but i did measure the protrusion at .022. As far as i can tell the pin still has a dome on the end, it does not look broken.
