I literally just checked a hive yesterday & was worried I was about to have to install a queen. Couple weeks ago I caught the swarm from it, & last week I saw no eggs or larvae. Yesterday tho…their new queen was laying eggs on dang near the whole frame. Your videos like this have helped me TREMENDOUSLY, David! Thank you, sir!

So glad to hear your comments about the viability of using swarm queen cells. I'm a big believer of striving for the best genetics possible, but I have also long believed that more than just a few folks have gone overboard with the concept. Thanks for your insight and guidance. Best regards from Purple Mountain Bees, Statesville, NC.

I can NEVER see egg cells! I guess I need to take a magnifying glass when I check them.

Love your videos. I'm curious about if you have honey production hives somewhere. I always see fields of nucs in your videos. I like the nucs and smaller colonies over huge hives. Guess im wondering if your business is all nucs and queens?

Thanks for sharing, it’s the most hazardous time for a queen when they are on mating flights. Always have one hive that grumpy 😆😆🐝🐝

Lol!!! Thanks for all your videos. I was able to identify my 3 virgin queens returning from mating flights by the hive activity shown in your videos. Thanks again.

David, I am a 2nd year rookie when it comes to keeping bees. Recently I mowed around the hives to keep the weeds and grasses around the hives short, and they 'attacked' me, being surrounded by multitudes of the little darlings! I have four hives and have been mowing around them for the 2 years I have had them. They stung my hands through my bee keeplng gloves, plus a pair of heavy leather gloves! I am about ready to give up. You always have such great advice, so how can I keep this from happening again?

It may depend upon your bees, some are more aggressive than others. A few of my hives will tear you up for no reason, and others don't mind you being near their hive. Certain times of the day are better and any overcast or thunderstorms make the bees more likely to attack.. If your hives are mean, you should re-queen or find out if stores are low causing their behavior.. I'm converting from Italian to Carnelian because of colony management through the dearth.

Stephen... You could always "Close up the Colonies the Night before" you are doing a Mowing Day by closing the Entrances with Foam Strips etc... If it very Hot, make sure the Hive is very well ventilated, Screen Board both top and Bottom... or you could mow that Yard Grass really early in the Morning, if Neighbours allow it (!) Knowing you and the Bees won't get Hot and bothered in that Mid Day Sun... 😉 Hope this helps. 🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝 Happy Beekeeping 2022. 🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝 Maybe add a Feeder with thin Syrup (little less sugar than 1:1) so the Girls are kept, busy, and hydrated, while shut in... 😎

Do they roar when a Queen comes back from a mating flight? I heard a hive roaring yesterday with no reason that I could see. I didn’t open the hive.

My hive swarmed cpl days ago. I waited until they all landed on a tree branch and transferred to another hive. They seem ok in both hives now but I’m worried I’ve ruined everything? Can’t see any queens .

I had a hive that swarmed but it seemed like they just went right back in the box. They were extremely pissed off too they didn't even want me 100 feet of the hive. Then it was like the bees got sucked back into the hive. I watched it in person then watched it on security camera nothing bothered with them. They were super loud too I heard them from the other side of my house.

How do you keep the paint nice on your boxes? And how do you keep the lids from getting brick stains on them? I keep painting my boxes and then the dirt and dust scums them up fast.

The past season we had a whole spring/summer of overcast like that and the blossoms made no honey, I did an inspection prior to pulling spring honey and had to feed most of my apiaries immediately so all summer there was little to no honey produced and what honey they had was tainted with sugar. My conclusion is that flowers don't produce nectar in overcast.

I completely hear you about the swarming aspect. I have seen a lot of beekeeping videos by several different people. I think it's odd that although I have heard some people say you don't want to encourage the "swaming DNA" I have to add though that the ones who allow the colonies to be ready to swarm before splitting have healthier bees without feeding of a lot of mite treatments than those who don't like swarms or drones. Some even lose more hives small hive beatles then to mites.

Hi Dave, poor auld Ian is havin a bad year. Queen right hives are very slow. The weather is bad in Ireland now. Rain the past week on/off. If i get 6 new queens im happy. Double brood boxes are difficult. Swarming this year is high compared to last year... Hope you're doing good brother... Dave do you keep any bee's for honey. Just curious...

You are asking for it wearing black. I can’t let my bees see my Apple Watch as it looks like a Bear Nose. My poor dog has a black snout and knows how to respect the bee yard.
