It’s always been one of my fitness goals to peak a mountain 🙌🏻

I loved this episode!! Years ago (1990) I was a student at Ricks College and did a block class that was a camping class. One of the weeks was spent at the Grand Canyon. I have hiked the north to south rim. Listening to you brought back so many wonderful memories. And it was so fun to hear of your experience. And you will never taste better lemonade, than at the bottom of the Grand Canyon!! Thanks for sharing and bringing back treasured memories.

People clown on poles until that first desperate hike, then they’re converted. Got mine at target, and I rarely have both at once cause my trail mates always steal one 😂. Pole dork, checking in. They also help SO MUCH on unsteady footing, it gives you two more points of contact to the ground!

I love my poles!! They can clown all they want as they’re hobbling back to the car 😂

My husband and I love the North Rim over the South because it's less touristy. We did the "trifecta" of mule rides in Oct. 2014: South Rim to Phantom Ranch & back (2 days), North Rim (3 hour ride), & Bryce Canyon (3 hours), beware of the mule named Bungee. I'm afraid of heights too, made much, much worse by sitting up on a mule (they be tall), plus the mules walk the outside edge of the trail😳. I looked at a lot of canyon walls😂. You mentioned going down Bright Angel & up South Kaibab, that's how the mule ride runs. Be warned, there is little to no shade on most of the South Kaibab, that's why most hikers go down into the canyon on that trail in the morning. We met a fella that had done the rim to rim to rim (N-S-N) in a day, I think he was 70 years old. He beat all the other hikers in his group. Loved hearing about your hike. I was thinking that hiking would be less "fear of heights" terror inducing and kind of wanted to do it, but we moved to Alaska instead😂.

Next time try rim to rim to rim. No shuttle needed! My husband and I did it from South to north with one overnight on the north rim. The next time we did it with two nights on the north rim. It was AWESOME! Best trail food: Fritos! I sweat like crazy so I need the salt. We’re going this May 🎉 Can’t wait.

Great podcast! What a great accomplishment!! Sorry if I missed this, but were you ever hiking in the dark?

The stair master is underrated. I use it and still live in a mountainous region just because you can control the intensity. You don’t get the benefits of going downhill though. I’ve never been brave enough to use the stair master backwards lol.

This sounds so incredible! Thank you for sharing. I LOVED when your daughter disappeared and reappeared! So crazy 🤪 For Christmas we are giving our kids a trip to the grand canyon. What would you choose to do with Littles at the South Rim?

I would have to still lather up with sun screen even in October. I was in West Virginia in October and had to make sure I had sun screen on when I was outside also had a hat on also

A fun recommendation if you go back. Stay in Williams and ride the train to the South Rim. You can do your hikes and ride the train back llater in the day. The Grand Canyon Railway Hotel has a package option for meals that works great. Another option is to ride the train, spend the whole day and night at South Rim and then the following afternoon you can take the train back.
