Good morning. Guess we were caming when you put this video out. Crops sure look good in your area. Best I've seen for a long time.

Weird, never have had a fan plug on my old box drills 🤔🤣🤣😆👍🍻. Would like to go to air one day…. But the old JD 9350 drills are working pretty good yet.

lol on the box drills.

@@barneyshort8227 hard to get mad at what works. Lol 😆. I really like the 6 inch spacing. Helps close the canopy in quicker I think to trap moisture and help with weed suppression. Fertilizer is a pain in the butt though. Do a lot of spreading.
@jeremycherny20412 ай бұрын
I seeded all the canola at 4.7. Looked like hell like yours and now its filled in and looks pretty good. At the end of the day as long as the canola has groceries it will put out.

Crops look good up there, we have been a little dry and cold the last couple weeks around our area. Some places catching timely showers but not general rain.

According to some research i read years ago the best row spacing for wheat is 5 inches. Hopefully your canola on the edges of where you missed the rows will grow big and bushy and help make up for the misses
@randykrochak11852 ай бұрын
Thanks for video Tyson, why don’t you use old Jd drill for canola, new drill for cereals ? Put a nh3 kit if need be on old drill? Prework your canola fields in fall. When I worked at Deere we sold a few like your old drill and farmers install nh3 kits. Canola well level out

I wonder if your soil will improve after a few years of no tilling. It might be hard the first year of no tilling, but after a few years it might get better. I dont farm, but thats what I've heard

Ya the unseeded stripes are kind of embarrassing, I usually tell the neighbours it’s a test strip when it happens around here…😂

I kinda prefer the 6" spacings for cereals , much better canopy and shading out weeds, but with the pre emergent herbacides kinda gotta be on 10-12" spacing otherwise get too much soil throw in to the furrow . Ive just got real old school stuff so have a 6" and a 12" machine . Some neighbours talk of 18' for canola , don't see it much thought

we have 10 inch spacing on a seedhawk and 12 in on a seed master.. no difference on yield on cereals and canola but peas is a bit worse on dry years with the 12

If you use a 3-4 year rotation I’ve seen where the volunteer canola will fill in the gaps. Good luck 👍 You only need one plant per sq. yard to make a crop.

That was too bad about the fan plugging up and making those bad passes. I like the idea of putting a snorkel for the fan intake. Would it be too late to replant, or would it not be worth it?

Would it be time & cost effective to change openers to single row for canola and paired row for your cereals? That is assuming you seed your canola last. I wonder as you are saying if it would be advantageous to spike or use vertical tillage in the fall on any fields to be seeded to canola the following spring? I have also wondered about compaction of fields as many have been zero tilled for decades as to how well rain is being absorbed and ability of plants to grow considering how hard the ground is.
@Northern_Farmer2 ай бұрын
@sasfarmer lots of work to change tips over...with the wet fall last year it packed a lot...a light tillage to relive the compaction should work good. I had to disk my pea stubble this spring and the wheat is awesome in that field
