Some young people can benefit from cheek implants, but most can be treated with filler unless they have a flat midface. Older people lose volume and get tired of spending money on temporary filler treatments are appreciate permanent treatment with cheek implants. Once you get the implants, can you still get fillers under your eye? or does it get in the way? And what about when I get older Im 28, will I be dealing with any type of maitnance? Will there be a sunken look under the implant Can it be filled out with filler? And how much does the combined implant cost?

What a kind and down to earth person. I think it's the second most important thing for a patient to feel comfortable infront of a doctor just like himself. The first think is how good he is in his job obviously which I see that he already is.

Yes, absolutely, we do it frequently. Both procedures enhance each other.

How do you exactly match the implant to the midface-deformity type? Do you do custom implants? e.g. PEEK/Silicone 3D designs? E.g. if a male wants more of a high cheekbone look (to make cheekbones prominent), AND also has flat midface, and needs submalar region augmentation BUT without the apple-cheek-fullness that women want. It seems like the implant is made to fit-it-all, but the result will be subpar, because the amount of augmentation needed in submalar region vs zygomatic bone are different from what a standard combined implant can do (at least implantech).

For people that require specific detailed augmentation custom implants are the best way to go. The stock implants benefit the average person.

Hello, Dr. Niamtu! Your videos are very informative and go into great detail about facial cosmetic surgery. I particularly liked this one regarding cheek implants. I am considering these implants in conjunction with the facelift and fat transfer to my face. I was struggling with the question if I would need them after the fat transfer. After leaning my head back as you demonstrated with this lady, I got a much better idea of what effect they would afford to me. Thank you for offering this demonstration. Would you please tell me about how the silicone implants would feel to the touch, and what are any complications that may occur through the years. I sincerely appreciate all of the insight. If I were located in your city, you would be my surgeon of choice.

I have them in my own face and they feel like cheekbones. I am not a big fan of fat in the cheeks. It is not readily reversible and soft filling in the cheeks will droop with age. Cheek implants are attached to the facial skeleton and cannot move. Dr. J

I’m 7 days post op cheek implant surgery. In rest it looks normal but when I smile it doesn’t look good. How much should I be worried now? 😥

That is normal in the first several weeks in my experience but you need to consult your surgeon.

Hey joe In this video you say for younger people you only do the cheeks, I don't understand, do you mean without any implants or? And if so what kind of cheek procedures on younger people to achieve a little lift in midface ? Because you go on in your video that older people should have some type of augmentation. Thanks! We secure the implants to the bone, so they will never move. Implants won't have a negative effect on skin with or without scars. Dr. Joe :)

Hi Dr I really hope you'll see this. I have a significant volume loss in the midface and submalar area(my lateral cheeks are full) and I'm 29 y.o. I've done filler voluma 1.5 ml for each cheek and it was looking the same. Then I've done 3 fat injections and they didn't last at all. Do you think a cheek implant is a reasonable solution for someone in my age? The hollow cheeks make me look old and its quite depressing. If there is no volume is there a risk the implant will protrude under the skin?will it look odd? Thank you so much.

i had a malar cheek implants 6 days ago along with mandible implants, they were a nightmare! my face got so swollen that i couldn't recognize my face anymore and i ended up getting them removed after 48 hours i suffered an internal bleeding on the right side of my face and i have a blue bruising all around my right eye, was it the doctor fault or my body did not accept the implants? they were implantech and i have them with me now so he did not use anything different than what we agreed on pre-surgery! your opinion would be me much appreciated doctor… Thanks.

Some patients get tremendously extreme swelling, but if they take steroids and ride it out it will go down. I have had this happen and I ask my patients to give it several weeks and it always goes down. Sometimes a bleed can happen and if a hematoma develops, it must be suctioned. Cheeks and mandible implants can cause extreme swelling, regardless of the surgeon. Dr. Joe

It doesn,t seem a screw clear up in upper cheek could be easy to UN screw. How sore must a mouth BE after that . I l already caught onto the face improvement in lying back position, ha!. I think that cheek implants make women look bad. It is not attractive and should be another way to achieve a younger appearance.
