I think because she is very overly happy, either she's naive or she's actually experienced some sadness in her life and adopted this persona to delude herself into happiness which can work for some people, similar to repeating affirmations in your head can lead an obsessive brain down a more positive train of thought. When these superficially happy people encounter other people who have done the opposite of their extreme of ignoring their innate feelings of sadness but rather have entirely embraced them and fallen further in, it creates a momentary crisis of identity and the shattering of the protective delusion when they remember where they buried that bleak part of themselves.

As somebody who has suffered from depression, one of the most annoying things is when people say just cheer up. Worse than that is when they say stop taking your medication and just cheer up! I think if anybody sang if you're happy and you know it clap your hands, and expected me to either clap my hands or cheer up, I would want to punch them.

As a pedestrian who's permanently annoyed by car owners who park illegally, sometimes I like to cheer traffic wardens on while they're writing out tickets. Absolutely makes their day, hearing a member of the public enthusiastically yelling "Go on, my son! Fine that inconsiderate rule-breaking bastard!!!" You should see the spring in their step afterwards. Does the heart good.

@@peterclarke7240 That might be the pettiest thing I've ever heard, some people park "illegally" out of necessity not because they are callous or enjoy breaking rules. Some places purposefully limit parking to increase the ability to implement fines from desperate people, parking in and around Hospitals is a good example.

@@Necron00b Yepp. Two years ago I was at the vet’s office putting my 16 year old dog to sleep. The parking lot was being tarred so I parked just on the side of the building. I went in with my dog and came out to a $200 ticket. I was already in shambles and then I had to worry about how to pay for the euthanasia, the cremation, and the ticket.

I for one am sick of all the cars in the city i live in. There is plenty of public transport, which is better for the environment and keeps the city liveable. Your story is sad bur singular, most people don't have sock animals to rescue, they are just lazy.

@@schmonzo42 unfortunately, public transport is sparse in my area. We have trains, but the stations are pretty spread out, and not every town has a train station. The nearest station to my home is a good 40 minute walk. I agree, tho that if trains/subways are accessible to people, they should definitely take advantage of them. Expanding access to public transport solves a lot of issues, the only problem is getting the government to fund it

I was in Tenerife for a week for my 60th birthday. I was reasonably cheerful most of the week. We stayed in Puerto de la Cruz; visited the botanical gardens; went on a daytrip which included a visit to a winery where we were invited to taste some local products. Part of Puerto de la Cruz was like a German enclave with German shops and bars and restaurants. Never went up that mountain though (Teide I think it's called.)
